It’s been a long day but a great one! This will not be the last post about this year’s Woolpack 4-H Sheep Project but I can’t go to bed without giving these wonderful families a small shout out before we flood social media with much better images than what I captured on my cell phone.

Today we not only survived, but celebrated some huge achievements for our team. Some in the show ring for the VERY first time with any species, some attending or showing at the NC State Fair for the very first time. This project allows growth for those new to animal science projects, new to 4-H and also those that have been kicking around for a few minutes.

Realizing that when your own team is 10 of the 13 lambs in one class that not everyone can come out with blue; our kids still seemed to be genuinely excited for one another. That is something that will take each of us a long way in life.

I will list out placings better in a follow up post but a huge congratulations to Landen Flores for exhibiting today’s Jr Supreme Champion and also the NC Born and Bred Grand Champion. This CVM Romeldale was raised by Susan Proctor and leased for her lamb and yearling years so that our youth can learn more about this breed. Thank you Mrs. Susan for supporting our 4-H’ers and thank you Melissa Gray for making these fun connections possible.

With 28 sheep and 25 youth we have lots of classes placings, winners, NC winners and had four or ten in the final drive I think.

For showmanship, which is Mrs. Tara’s favorite we had lots that made it to the top ten and the classes were super impressive in quality this year. Everyone looked amazing!

Our packing crew got the trailer ready and even squeezed in a last minute practice! Please wish all of our families safe travels as we head to the state fair with 26 4-Hers and wool breed sheep.

Special thanks to Mr. Greg Justice for allowing us to borrow his trailer to get all these sheep hauled. Onslow County farmers are top notch and Mr. Greg is one of the kindest and most sharing of them all 🫶 We appreciate all that you continue to do for our program 🫶

Wednesdays, 5:30p-7:00p, starting October 21st, 2026.
$20 per child.
This is for Ages 8 to 12.

The 4-H Agent, Mrs. Tara, and Livestock Agent, Mrs. Melissa, could not be prouder of the 15 dedicated youth who poured six weeks of hard work and grit into mastering the skill of showing dairy heifers. From halter-breaking to show prep, and everything in between. That dedication culminated this past weekend at the Down East Dairy Show in Kinston, NC, where every participant showcased their skills, passion, and incredible progress in the ring.
