Meet Princess Atta. This fun and feisty cutie is available for adoption today at noon.
Atta came to us as a tiny baby at the end of September - too tiny to be spayed and placed for adoption. So we sent Atta to stay with another of our wonderful foster families so that she could grow in the security of a loving home. We are so grateful to our fosters for all that they do!

Where Onyx goes, so goes his fish taco! Does anyone have room in their heart for a handsome boy and his 🌮?

It was a very good week last week!
Three legs, no problem! Our happy-go-lucky girl Athena doesn’t let anything slow her down. Athena is an affectionate, sweet-natured pup. She loves playing fetch, behind-the-ear scratches, belly rubs and soaking up all the love. Athena does well on a lead, enjoys time in the yard and is an all around good girl. She has been around young children and dogs previously, but would prefer a home with no cats. Athena is a 5 year old Pittie mix, is 60 pounds and has tested heartworm negative.
Our library kitties!
Come meet them (and adopt!) at the Swansboro Branch Library until 2!
All adult cats (age one and up), are just $50 today! That’s half the regular adoption fee!
Our girl Ruby is hoping you run on down to OCAS (but make sure you have an appointment) to meet her! Ruby has been waiting so patiently for weeks and no one is coming to see her. Ruby is a happy-go lucky, curious hound who loves to play and explore in the yard. It’s so hard for a pup who loves to run free to be cooped up in the kennels for so long (special thanks to our kennel staff for making sure she gets exercise time). Ruby is a great girl.
Unfortunately, her previous family did not make sure that she took monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm prevention is less than $10 a month and is vital here in NC. Now Ruby has tested positive for heartworms and needs a special family who can help her back to a happy, healthy heart. This is of course an extra responsibility, and some members of our community have sponsored her adopt fee so that her new family can put that cost towards getting her healthy.
We have two heartworm positive hounds, Ruby & Stella who would love to find a family today. If you are looking for a quirky, playful, affectionate canine companion, please call 920-937-1164.
Good morning from Chloe (and OCAS alumni and fantastic foster sibling Evee)!
Chloe loves being around other dogs. She would love a family where she can join the pack and have lots of playmates. A big, fenced yard to run would be great too!
We’re ready to make some adoptions happen today and Stevenson Hendrick Toyota wants to see every adoptable animal find a home. They are sponsoring all adoptions today!
Our sweet “Hamilton kittens” and several other terrific animals are waiting to meet their new best friend. View all of our adoptable friends on our website: http://www.onslowcountync.gov/186/Animals and make an appointment by calling 910-937-1164. Don't delay; appointments are filling up fast!
Isabel has made so much progress in just a few days, so we have decided to give her a little more time with her foster. This will not only help Isabel feel more comfortable in a home environment, but will allow us to share more information with potential adopters. Some dogs transition very easily, but many, like Isabel, need a little more time and care. We will continue to follow Isabel’s foster home adventures. :)
This is Isabel and her foster sister Evee (she’s from OCAS too). Miss Evee is quite a little firecracker & has been teaching Isabel to play.
It’s been another day where our sweet and playful Sunny girl has not been picked. It can be tough being a Pit mix in a shelter due to breed restrictions, and Sunny has tested heartworm positive as well. She will need a family commuted to getting her the treatment she needs for a healthy heart. Sunny is a bright and happy pup who loves playtime in the yard, her ball and drinking from the hose. Sunny is working on her leash manners (she’s so excited to be out and about, she does tend to pull a bit) and would probably do best with a harness. Sunny knows how to sit for a treat and we know she would be a fine companion for a family who is willing to give her time and training. This pretty girl could really use a second chance at happiness.
If you would like to open your heart and home to a special needs pup, please call 910-937-1164 to schedule an appointment.
Our kennel attendant Emma put this fantastic trailer together to showcase adoptable pup Sunny ❤️

Meet Wild Child! This 2 month old is a FIESTY boy. Looking for a rambunctious, mischievous, curious ball of energy? This is your kitten! Available Saturday, May 9th at #OCAS #adoptdontshop #kittensofinstagram #crazycat #kitten #instakitten #meowoftheday #foreverhomeneeded
Todd has done very well with his foster siblings, especially nosy, busy young Evie. Here, Todd takes a bonk on the head with a yawn 😊
In the latest installment of “Adventures with Todd” we see that Todd is doing very well with his foster fur-siblings, and is especially patient with nosy, busy pup Evie. Here Todd takes a bonk on the head with a yawn 😊
Todd has been such a good boy today - helping in the yard, learning a new trick, testing out all the good napping spots and zero accidents in the house. He deserved a special puppy ice cream treat. 🍦 Looks like he is doing well in a crate too!
Todd is learning commands! Who says you cannot teach an old dog new tricks? Todd’s foster mom tells us that he is catching on quickly and is very eager to learn. We think he looks very snappy in his bow tie.

New available pup alert! Meet Kirby! Kirby is a super sweet 1 1/2 year old Lab mix. Kirby is a bit shy in the kennels, but once she’s outside she really starts to shine. She LOVES being outside in the yard, playing with toys, and getting behind-the-ear scratches. She enjoys running, spinning, wagging and just enjoying life. Kirby is looking for an active family with older children who will include her in their life’s adventures. As we said, she is shy at first, so we are looking for an adopter that will give her the time to feel confident in her new space. Once she feels comfortable, she is a brand new pup. If you enjoy the outdoors, if you are looking for an active young pup to be your lifetime sidekick, and you can give Kirby the time and understanding she needs to feel secure, Kirby may be your girl!
Please call 910-937-1164-to schedule an appointment.
It’s a little lonely for our boy Toby on adoption row. Toby is our only available pup today! Of course Toby is getting lots of love from staff, but we know he would be much happier to have a home and family of his own.
Toby is a 5 year old Hound and he is full of love and joy for life. Toby is a happy-go-lucky pup who loves to be outside. He would love a home with a big fenced yard (hounds do love space to follow their noses, and he would do well in a home other dogs. Toby has tested positive for heartworms, so he will need a special family who is able to commit to his treatment, but heartworms are treatable and With a healthy heart, Toby has many years of love and adventure ahead of him.
If you are interested in opening your heart and home to this special boy, please call 910-937-1164 to schedule an appointment.
Here’s a fun video! Here are our empty adoptable cat condos (we do have a separate intake room for cats who are not yet available), after we adopted out all available animals for last week. As we have said, things are always changing here at OCAS and we have some cats who will be getting surgery today and will be made available for adoption tomorrow (you can see we’ve already set up some condos to welcome them to the adoption room), as well as some newly adoptable dogs. It is such a rarity to have an empty condo room that we thought we would take a quick video. 😊
If you are interested in adopting, please keep an eye on our website for newly available animals. It is updated in real time. To schedule an appointment for a meet and greet, please call 910-937-1164.
