This afternoon the CH-53E MTU awarded thr Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal to Sergeant Thomas Carll for responding to a medical emergency of another Marine. Sergeant Carll's distinguished actions were nothing short of exemplary and resulted in a life being saved.

MILITARY PERSONNEL NOTICE: As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, the MCAS New River commanding officer has set tropical cyclone condition five with the passing of Hurricane Isaias, and the air station has resumed normal operations.

At TCC V, the potential for the occurrence of destructive weather is elevated, but no specific tropical system threatens the area.

Essential repairs and re-establishing services and utilities continues for some portions of the installation, but most hazards have been cleared from area roadways.

Please call your destination before departing as there are still scattered power outages across the area.

MILITARY PERSONNEL NOTICE: As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, the MCAS New River commanding officer has set Tropical Cyclone Condition 1 Recovery (TCC-IR) with the passing of Hurricane Isaias.

During TCC-IR, the destructive weather event has passed and recovery operations begin. Casualty, damage and other reports are passed to the installation emergency operations center. Although some potential safety and storm hazards remain, air station personnel will begin work to ensure the return of normal operations by eliminating safety concerns, clearing debris, performing essential repairs and re-establishing services and utilities.

All air station staff and tenant commands are requested to inspect their work areas as soon as possible and report any minor damages to your chain of command. Major damages should be reported to the installation emergency operations center. Building occupants should take any steps required to mitigate water damage and to begin drying interior work spaces.

Restrictions on non-essential personnel and base residents remain in place until the lifted by the installation emergency operations center. It is important that personnel and residents remain in place while damage assessment teams survey the air station. Dangerous conditions, such as downed trees, flooding, and downed power lines may exist and pose a hazard to untrained personnel.

An update will be provided to all once normal operations have returned.

MILITARY PERSONNEL NOTICE: As of 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, the MCAS New River commanding officer has established Tropical Cyclone Condition 1 Caution (TCC IC) in preparation for any potential impacts from Hurricane Isaias. TCC IC is established when a destructive weather system with sustained winds of 50 knots (58 mph) or greater is forecast to affect the area within 6 hours.

At 8:00 p.m. EDT (0000 UTC), the center of Hurricane Isaias was located by NOAA Doppler weather radars and an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft near latitude 32.8 North, longitude 79.0 West. Isaias is moving toward the north-northeast near 16 mph (26 km/h), and this general motion accompanied by a gradual increase in forward speed is expected through tonight followed by a further increase in the forward speed on Tuesday. On the forecast track, the center of Isaias will approach the coasts of northeastern South Carolina and southern North Carolina within the hurricane warning area during the next few hours. The center will then move inland across eastern North Carolina early Tuesday morning, move along the coast of the mid-Atlantic states on Tuesday, and continue across the northeastern United States Tuesday night.

All MCAS New River interests should monitor the NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center forecast throughout the weekend and consider possible impacts.

MILITARY PERSONNEL NOTICE: As of 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020, the MCAS New River commanding officer has established Tropical Cyclone Condition 2 (TCC II) in preparation for any potential impacts from Tropical Storm Isaias. TCC II is established when a destructive weather system with sustained winds of 50 knots (58 mph) or greater is forecast to affect the area within 24 hours.

At 11 a.m. EDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Isaias was located by NOAA Doppler weather radars near latitude 26.9 North, longitude 79.6 West. Isaias is moving toward the north-northwest near 8 mph (13 km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue through Monday morning. A turn toward the north and north-northeast is anticipated on Monday and Tuesday with an increase in forward speed. On the forecast track, the center of Isaias will move near the east coast of Florida today through late tonight. On Monday and Tuesday, the center of Isaias will move from offshore the coast of Georgia into the mid-Atlantic states.

All MCAS New River interests should monitor the NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center forecast throughout the week and consider possible impacts.
