April 17, 2026

On the morning of April 17, 2026, at Jacksonville High School, a JISD staff member secured a backpack containing a firearm from a student. The backpack was immediately confiscated by a JHS Resource Officer, and the campus was placed on immediate lockdown.
JHS staff responded quickly and handled the situation effectively, following established safety protocols. Additional JISD law enforcement responded immediately.
At this time, there is no active threat, and all students and staff are safe.
We understand this can be alarming for parents and the community. Our safety protocols are designed to prioritize securing the campus and ensuring the safety of all students and staff before any communication is released, while continuing to communicate as soon as possible.
We are so proud of our campus administrators and staff for their quick, calm, and effective response in following safety protocols and ensuring the safety of all students and staff.

So proud of these guys for making a difference in our community.
