A contractor hit a gas line in the area of Coffee St SW & Gayle Ave SW. Areas impacted include Coffee, Gayle, Wilson, Vann, Spring and Pelham on the SW side of town from approximately Coffee St SW to Greenleaf St SW. We are in the process of repairing the leak. A valve had to be turned off in order to stop the flow of gas. Some in the area may be without gas services at this time or if you are in the area you may be smelling gas. Once the valve is turned back on the utility department will relight any pilot lights that may have gone out due to the gas valve being shut off. If you have any questions, please call the office at 256-435-7657.

**SEWER SMOKE TESTING**
THURSDAY, JULY 23RD beginning around 7:00 am.
We will be "smoke testing" sewer lines tomorrow, Thursday, July 23rd. Residents may notice "smoke" rising from the ground, clean outs, or possible areas around homes if plumbing issues exist. City crews will be on site during testing. A special non-toxic "smoke" will be used in these tests. The "smoke" is manufactured for the purpose, leaves no residuals or stains, and has no effect on plant or animal life. Visibility and odor last only a few minutes. The goal is to locate breaks and defects in the sewer system. The smoke will also reveal sources of where storm and other surface water enter the sewer system. Because the plumbing appliances in your home or building are connected to the sanitary sewer system, some smoke may enter your home if vents, traps, or pipe connections are inadequate, defective, or improperly installed. The following areas are scheduled for testing:

Bailee Way SW
Branscomb Dr. SW
Henry Rd. SW
Second Ave. SW
Area behind Legacy Village along Ladiga Trail

If you have any questions, please call the office at 256-435-7657.
