To slow the increased community transmission of COVID-19 and preserve medical capacity, MCB Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River will elevate their Health Protection Condition (HPCON) from B to B+ Wednesday, Aug. 18., at 8 a.m.

While mission critical operations will experience little impact, increased mitigation efforts will require cooperation and support from the entire installation community. Key areas of focus to reduce community transmission include:

1. Continue wearing masks in all facilities.
2. Mission essential indoor classroom instruction only.
3. If you feel sick, get tested, adhere to restriction of movement (ROM) protocols, stay isolated, and DO NOT come back to work until you receive results.
4. Limit the size of gatherings and observe basic protective measures.

Thank you for your continued adherence to base policies and flexibility as we ensure our Marines and Sailors continue to train and remain ready to operate around the globe.

For more information on COVID-19, please visit https://www.lejeune.marines.mil/COVID-19/

The protocols will be instituted no later than Monday, Aug. 2, 2021, at 8 a.m.

Did you Know?

Prior to 1921, Marines celebrated the creation of the Marine Corps on July 11, otherwise known as Marine Corps Day.

When this force was first raised during the Revolutionary War, it was part of the Continental Army.
So in 1775, that group was known as the Continental Marines, and it wasn’t yet the United States Marine Corps.

When the Revolution ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1783, the Marines, like the Navy, were disbanded.

It wasn’t until 15 years later, on July 11, 1798, that President John Adams signed into law a congressional act which created—or re-created, depending how you look at it—the United States Marine Corps.
