Recent post from our CMC:

Good morning Jason Dunham family and friends, CMC here.

I wanted to reach out and check in on everyone as Tropical Storm Ian is approaching. The news reports of South West Florida have alot of damage and I am glad that this hurricane is now a tropical storm.

Still, it remains a large storm and is dangerous. Please remain sheltered in place and do not venture out unless absolutely necessary. It may seem ok to do so, but things can escalate very quickly if your out in the storm. With all the water around, you just don't know what is under the water.

If you need any type of assistance, please reach out to your or your Sailors Chain of Command, myself, the Ombudsman, or the FRG. Watch the local news, follow all recommendations, and please stay safe!

From the Command page:

Good morning Jason Dunham family and friends, CMC here.

Just wanted to reach out with a small tidbit if information. I know that with a hurricane inbound, it can be a scary time for all of us. I encourage you, if you have not already, download the Jaxready App. This app has alot of useful information for flood zones and storm info. Also, get on and follow the Mayport Naval Station page ask they post useful information. We will post what information we get here, as we get it.

If you have not, please today get a hurricane preparedness kit together. As the storm gets closer to us, items at the store will be harder to get. Fill your vehicles gas tank as well.

We are watching this storm closely and are making preps here onboard. That may keep your Sailor here at work longer than you would like. Please make sure that you are prepared at home while we prepare here.

More to follow soon.

Families,

It has been my honor to serve as your Ombudsman. Thank you for this. At this time I have resigned and am turning over everything to the CMC. Thank you again for everything. Please continue to support your Sailors and our Navy!

Thank you always,

Families of USS JASON DUNHAM (DDG 109),

Today is the 52nd Ombudsman Appreciation day. While it is a day to celebrate Ombudsman and our very important role in our Navy Family, we couldn't and wouldn't be able to do what we do without your assistance and support. We have been through a lot since I took over as the Ombudsman:

Predeployment Workups
Deployment
Deployment extention
Return to homeport
Yard Period.

Our Sailors take on the hard roles and long hours during their service to our nation. Our families stand beside them and encourage them. Supporting them in every step until their last day in uniform. I was honored to serve our Navy for 17 years before retiring and becoming a full time Naval spouse. I, like a lot of people feel that service above self is a great attribute. I jumped at the opportunity to tackle the hard role of Ombudsman when the opportunity presented itself.

I have met a lot of our families and have been excited to work with CDR Kiser, CDR Keller, and Command Master Chief Roth to ensure that we have good communication between our Sailor's Leadership and families. I am grateful daily for all the support and confidence everyone have given me. So, even though today is about recongnizing Ombudsman, I want to recognize you. Again, we couldn't do anything without you! Thank you families for your support! Thank you to the CO, XO, and CMC for their belief in me and guidance when needed. A HUGE thank you to my fellow Ombudsman Navy wide, Navy Region Southeast, and here at Mayport Naval Station.

I will continue to support our families as long as I can. I am available to you. I am proud to be your Ombudsman.

Thank you,

Christopher Hooper

Families,

I would be remiss to go through April without recognizing military children.

April is Month of the Military Child. The things that Military Children undergo are life altering in a lot of situations. Our children show that military children, although young, are resilient! As Sailors we often miss our children and are excited to show off pictures and messages of/from the kids. It is those pictures and messages from the kids that keep us going when we are away from our families. Back home, often, spouses rely on our kids to keep our spirits up. Even when we are feeling lost for words, our kids give us purpose and hope. So, as your Command Ombudsman, thank you to all the kids that support our Sailors and spouses! We couldn’t do what we do without you.

Semper Fortis,

Christopher Hooper
Command Ombudsman

FYI Families!

FYI Families!

Effective today we are now in HPCON Alpha. This decision was made due to local community transmission rates, capacity of local hospitals and medical capabilites of military treatment facilities.

What does this mean -

When the HPCON is A, or ā€œAlpha,ā€ there’s a limited health alert. Maintain your routine actions but also:

Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
If you’re sick, call your medical provider for instructions on receiving care before going to a clinic or hospital. Make sure your installation is aware of the symptoms of your health threat.

Families,

I know we have all gotten news that we don’t like. I’m sorry. Things like this cannot be avoided. As I’ve been saying, ā€œWe are not just called a Navy Family, We ARE a Navy Family.ā€ Lean on one another! Utilize the FRG for the socia aspect and myself for the resources. We must band together to bring this deployment to a close. We are in this together! As bad as we have it back here, think how bad our Sailors have it. šŸ™‚

JASON DUNHAM Families, a word from the Commanding Officer:

Jason Dunham Families,

I know many of you have seen the news reports of the Harry S. Truman Strike Group being extended on deployment. We received the official word today that we will be extended for a little over a month. The Ombudsman and FRG will have the schedule shortly and will let you know the details as they can. We understand that extensions create anxiety and we are supporting each other out here as a united team. We know there are challenges back home, and I ask that you use the support of the Ombudsman, the FRG, and the extended Jason Dunham family.

Sincerely,

CDR Michael Kiser
Commanding Officer

JASON DUNHAM Family and Friends,

Good evening. I had the honor of talking to quite a few families tonight with regards to the homecoming. Please let me put your minds at ease:

Several ships in the Truman Strike Group are extended, however, Jason Dunham remains on track to return home on time.

If you have questions regarding homecoming date please contact me. If there is a change in the date you will get it from Susan Roth or myself.

My phone remains on for all the families. Have a great NAVY night!

Chiefs,

On this occasion of your 129th birthday I would like to extend my sincerest happy birthday to the Chief Petty Officer mess. As a retired First Class Petty Officer I understand the value of ā€œTHE CHIEFā€! I worked for some of the best Chiefs that I ever could’ve asked for during my career in the United States Navy. The Chief is the backbone! You make everything work. So on this occasion of your 129th birthday I would like to extend a hardy ā€œNavy Chief, Navy Prideā€ and happy birthday shipmates! Take care Chiefs.
