Families of USS JASON DUNHAM (DDG 109),
Today is the 52nd Ombudsman Appreciation day. While it is a day to celebrate Ombudsman and our very important role in our Navy Family, we couldn't and wouldn't be able to do what we do without your assistance and support. We have been through a lot since I took over as the Ombudsman:
Predeployment Workups
Deployment
Deployment extention
Return to homeport
Yard Period.
Our Sailors take on the hard roles and long hours during their service to our nation. Our families stand beside them and encourage them. Supporting them in every step until their last day in uniform. I was honored to serve our Navy for 17 years before retiring and becoming a full time Naval spouse. I, like a lot of people feel that service above self is a great attribute. I jumped at the opportunity to tackle the hard role of Ombudsman when the opportunity presented itself.
I have met a lot of our families and have been excited to work with CDR Kiser, CDR Keller, and Command Master Chief Roth to ensure that we have good communication between our Sailor's Leadership and families. I am grateful daily for all the support and confidence everyone have given me. So, even though today is about recongnizing Ombudsman, I want to recognize you. Again, we couldn't do anything without you! Thank you families for your support! Thank you to the CO, XO, and CMC for their belief in me and guidance when needed. A HUGE thank you to my fellow Ombudsman Navy wide, Navy Region Southeast, and here at Mayport Naval Station.
I will continue to support our families as long as I can. I am available to you. I am proud to be your Ombudsman.
Thank you,
Christopher Hooper
