19 Sailors from six Mayport harbor Warships attended Self-Sufficiency Workshop (SSW) training on Motors and Motor Controller troubleshooting. Through PowerPoint visual presentation and hands-on disassembly of electrical components they increased their knowledge. Our team expounded on common faults and misdiagnoses experienced in electrical system troubleshooting and saw first-hand how subject matter experts use technical manuals and experience to repair shipboard electrical systems. We discussed multiple avenues for troubleshooting and repairs, emphasizing the various resources available to the ships, in an effort to ultimately arm our ships with the tools necessary to achieve self-sufficiency at sea.

CNSS-14 in conjunction with PCMST hosted the Self-Sufficiency Workshop (SSW) on the topic of RHIB maintenance and repairs. Nine Sailors from five Mayport Ships attended the training with COVID mitigations in place. The training was excellent and included a focus on the Cummins diesel engine block, trim and steering systems, emergency equipment onboard, preventative maintenance and auxiliary systems components. Each participant left empowered and more ‘self-sufficient’ to take the knowledge they learned from the training back to their Command to share with their counterparts, and to perform the maintenance and repairs themselves.

The Self-Sufficiency Workshop (SSW) training on centrifugal pump mechanical seals was a complete success. In total, 40 Sailors across five Mayport ships attended the hands-on training. The training was focused on technical manual material, followed with visual mock-ups and an actual assembly of a hot potable water pump mechanical seal. The attendees learned the basic operation, characteristics and functionality of a variety of mechanical seals the Navy uses onboard ship. Each participant left empowered to take the knowledge they learned from the training back to their Command to perform these repairs themselves. Feedback from them showed they desired to attend the next training session in May on various valve repairs. A special thanks to SERMC for hosting the training at their facility.
