No one Volunteer Fire Department can do it all alone. We rely on our partnership with our neighboring Departments.

Yesterday we got to practice with our colleagues at Southwest Volunteer Fire Department on rural water supply using Tankers.

This drill helps us ensure that we are all ready to deliver when the need arises, and in this case, we got to certify another of our members on Tanker operations, adding another resource to serve our community

Great training!!!

The light rain over the weekend has done little to help, so the Burn Ban remains in effect. Please do not burn πŸ”₯

The statewide burn ban remains in effect until further notice despite weekend rain in some areas. Persistent dry weather and increasing rainfall deficits from the last several months have left most of the state needing 10 inches of rain or more.

β€œWhile the rainfall we received over the weekend was a welcome sight, it offered little to no relief from widespread drought conditions while being nowhere near enough to reduce our wildfire risk,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. β€œEven the areas that received the heaviest amount of rain will quickly dry out from the sunshine and warmer temperatures. Until we get some additional rain and see more green-up in our forests, holding the burn ban in place statewide is the best option right now.”

While green-up and leaf-out are progressing at normal rate, low soil moisture, dry surface fuels and persistent low humidity are contributing to wildfire activity. For Western North Carolina, excessive forest fuels from Hurricane Helene are more available now than they were in 2025, low water levels in coastal areas have helped produce intense fire behavior where ground fire will likely be a long-term issue, and the Piedmont experienced 87 new wildfire starts over the weekend alone. Extended attack and mop-up efforts will be taxing and long-winded until drought conditions improve.

‼️ We repeatedly post warnings in the hopes that the message will resonate, but perhaps a firsthand account of the consequences of burning trash during the Burn Ban is necessary.

This evening, a neighbor in our community elected to burn trash in a burn barrel. As we have cautioned, the fire rapidly spread beyond control, reaching the shed and wood line. Our crew promptly responded to the scene, and if we had arrived two minutes later, the fire would have engulfed the house as well.

PLEASE DON'T BURN! πŸ”₯. The home you save may be your own!!!

That means, NO BURNING of ANYTHING outdoors. Burning in these conditions puts out community at risk of wildfires, and puts you at risk for serious fines

Fire responses for outside fires are increasing in Onslow County. Dry weather, heat, wind, and drought conditions have raised the risk of wildfires. Because of this, the burn ban will remain in effect until further notice.

These conditions create a serious fire hazard. To protect life, property, and natural resources, all open burning is prohibited. This includes yard debris, land clearing, and any non-essential outdoor burning.

We will continue to monitor conditions and work with state and local partners. The burn ban will be reviewed as conditions improve, and updates will be shared as soon as it is safe to lift it.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work to keep Onslow County and surrounding communities safe.
