Onslow County Senior Services is a department of the Onslow County Government. We are dedicated to serving older adults and assisting their families with aging issues in Onslow County. In cooperation with other organizations, Onslow County Senior Services serves as the focal point of services and activities for all older adults in our county. Our professional staff and volunteers are here to help you with your needs. Our main line will connect you to the program with whom you wish to speak, 910-455-2747.
Our Adult Daycare is open from 7:30am-5:00pm to provide supervised care for adults in a home like atmosphere. This program strives to help each person maintain individual dignity, self-identity and enhance his/her quality of life.
CAP/DA is the Community Alternatives Program for Disabled Adults and is Medicaid funded. CAP/DA serves as an alternative to nursing home care for adults who wish to remain in their homes and communities through supplementing existing formal and informal services.
In-Home is the program designed to enable older adults to remain independent in their homes when for various reasons they become unable to meet their household, nutrition and/or personal care needs. One of the goals of In-Home is to help prevent unnecessary hospitalization or long term care placement.
Nutrition and Transportation are two programs that work hand in hand. Meals on Wheels are offered to those homebound individuals who meet certain criteria. Senior Services has 5 nutrition sites around the county: Jacksonville, Belgrade, Richlands, Sneads Ferry, and Swansboro. Transportation is also available through a partnering with the Onslow United Transit System.
The Senior Center is a good place to join a friend for coffee, make new friends or attend one of the ongoing programs or activities offered at the center daily. We invite you to come by and find a quiet spot to read a book, put a puzzle together, play a game of pool or use one of our many computers. Don’t forget we also offer exercise classes and have fitness equipment!
Other services that are provided include our medical equipment loan program, our assistance with Living Wills and Healthcare Power of Attorneys, and our support groups. Support groups include: Alzheimer’s Support Group, Parkinson’s Support Group, and Diabetic Support Group. Also, if you are in need of help with Medicare, SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) volunteers are able to assist you, from answering questions to helping the best plans for your specific situation.
Just call our main line, 910-455-2747, for assistance with any of our programs, or stop by to talk to someone directly.
