PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Summer begins June 21st, but Onslow County and surrounding areas have been experiencing record-breaking heat over the past few weeks, and the cycle is expected to continue. In an effort to keep citizens informed, Onslow County Sheriff’s Office is providing some heat safety suggestions, as recommended by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

* Stay indoors, if possible.
* Check on the elderly, sick and those without air conditioning
* If working outside, stay hydrated and take regular breaks in shade as often as possible
* NEVER leave children or pets in a car if you have to make any stops, even briefly!! The temperature inside a vehicle can reach dangerous degrees in just one minute.
* Limit your outdoor exercises. If you do plan on being outdoors, stay hydrated and keep in the shade as much as possible.

Recognize the symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke: stomach, legs or arm cramps; nausea, dizziness, fainting, headaches, to name just a few. If you experience any of the symptoms, get in a cool place immediately and call 911 to be evaluated by a doctor.

Crime Stoppers offers cash reward of up to $2,500 for information that is deemed of value or assistance to law enforcement. Information can also be anonymously texted via Text-A-Tip by typing TIP4CSJAX and your message to 274637 (CRIMES). Callers to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous and never have to reveal their identity.
