Swansboro Middle students concluded their Holocaust studies in Advanced ELA and Social Studies through a meaningful and immersive art walk led by Dr. Roscoe. The North Carolina Council on the Holocaust provided 32 powerful works of art created by children of Holocaust survivors. These pieces offered a moving example of how art can serve as a profound medium for expressing complex and difficult emotions.
During the experience, 153 advanced students engaged in thoughtful analysis of the artwork, drawing inferences and interpreting the artists’ purpose, themes, and use of symbolism. Students collaborated closely, demonstrating deep engagement and critical thinking as they reflected on the historical and emotional significance of each piece. The activity fostered rich discussion and yielded insightful, impactful responses from participants.
