One of 2 calls today into Monroe Twp we responded to.
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Ex-President, Wilbert “Tommy” Linke. He passed away peacefully on April 26th with his wife by his side. Tommy was President in 1979 and 1982-1983. He also severed as 1st Assistant Chief and had over 60 years of active service.
He was an avid sportsman, golfer and self-taught artist in oil and watercolor. He was the founder and past president of the Monroe Buck Club and former member of the Jamesburg Field and Stream club in Whiting, NJ. Tom spent his retirement hours working at the Concordia, Cranbury, and Regency golf courses.
Today we remember a true hero who made the Ultimate sacrifice
When a person is given the chance to live on this earth, you have one opportunity to leave your impact on this world and it’s your choice whether it be a positive or negative. So many people in this world take life for granted, not the man we are about to describe to you from this point forward. Kevin Apuzzio, born in Union Township, NJ chose from day one on this earth that he wanted to shine his light in a positive way and lead by example.
Kevin was an alter boy at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Union, where he was always trying to follow in the path of God. Kevin was a Volunteer EMT with the Union Twp. Emergency Medical Unit, where he rode countless nights at the squad protecting the members of his community. As soon as Kevin completed his High School Diploma, he moved onto Rutgers University and choose to major in Criminal Justice and Psychology, with aspirations of becoming a Police Officer.
While in his early years at Rutgers University, Kevin obtained a job with the Rutgers University Emergency Services as a FF/EMT and put to use his past experience, to now aid his fellow students in times of need. Kevin later was led to join a Volunteer Fire Department, called The East Franklin Fire Department, in an effort to further his abilities in helping protect lives and property. Kevin had the type of personality you always wanted to be around, he lit up a room with his smile and exemplified what a world class citizen is. He would give you the shirt off his back and the last bit of change in his pocket.
April 11th, 2006 to some was just another day, to Kevin and those that knew and loved him, this would be a day we would never forget. On this day, the East Franklin Fire Department responded to a working Structure Fire at 36 Whittier Avenue with a reported entrapment. As always with a can and will do attitude, Kevin got onto the fire engine and sprung into action, with the intentions to save a life. Kevin and his crew went into the burning building, through the smoke and located the victim. Kevin and his crew were making their way out of the smoke and flames, but unfortunately not everyone went home this day.
Kevin Apuzzio tragically lost his life in the Line of Duty, doing exactly what he loved to do and that was protecting life and property, trying to keep the community safe. He may not physically be with us today, but his spirit is and will “Always be by our side.”
Kevin was well-trained, smart, honest, caring and dedicated his life to serving others. Today we will not mourn Kevin’s death, but celebrate his life, what he stood for and what his memory continues to do for others.
April 11th, 2022- 16 Year Celebration of Life of FF Kevin Apuzzio, we will never forget you brother.

March 5, 2022 EAST WINDSOR, NJ (MERCER)–East Windsor Police say that on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at approximately 2:24 pm, members of the East Windsor Township Police Department responded to …
Leonard E. “Lenny” Hibbitts
1963 - 2022
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we mourn the unexpected passing of Lenny Hibbitts on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, in South Brunswick. He was 58.
Born in New Brunswick to the late Harold W. and Janet C. (Hague) Hibbitts, he lived in East Brunswick before moving to Monroe Township 25 years ago. Lenny was a 36-year law enforcement veteran who rose through the ranks of the South Brunswick Police Department to become a lieutenant before he retired. He later rejoined the department in 2017 as a Class III school resource officer. In 2001 he had been part of a team of South Brunswick officers sent into New York City to help immediately after the 9/11 attack. In his over three-decade career, he worked in many aspects of the police department including patrol, emergency response team (ERT), evening shift supervisor, traffic bureau supervisor, and school resource officer (SRO). In addition he was an armed security officer for East Brunswick Board of Education, a security officer for Princeton University and co-owner of Superior Fi****ms Training in Monroe.
Lenny was known as a quiet leader whose mere presence could calm a scene. His dedication to public service in policing was matched by his commitment to the fire service where he was a firefighter and fire chief in Jamesburg and a former member of the Brookview Fire Department in East Brunswick. He was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Surviving are his wife Dawne (Marbut) Hibbitts; two sons – Cal Hibbitts and his wife Paige of North Brunswick and Ty Hibbitts of Monroe; his daughter Fawne Hibbitts of Monroe; two sisters – Donna Hibbitts-Rossi of Spotswood and Janet DiStaso and her husband Lenny of Jackson; two grandchildren – Adalynn and Kash; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family.
Visitation will be 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday at St. Cecilia's R.C. Church, 10 Kingston Lane, Monmouth Junction. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jamesburg Fire Department, 82 West Railroad Avenue, Jamesburg, NJ 08831.
It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Ex-Chief Lenny Hibbitts. Lenny joined the fire service in 1995 and went on to serve for 27 years as an active firefighter. He joined our department in 2000 and became Chief in 2007. Lenny remained a member of our company until the day he passed. Along with Lenny’s fire service career, he was also police officer. He worked up through the ranks to Lieutenant of the South Brunswick Police Department where he retired after 35 years. While on the police force, he helped out in New York City after the 9/11 attacks. He later rejoined the department as a Class lll School Resource Officer in 2017. Lenny was a man who lived his life to serve. He will be sincerely missed. Until we meet again Lenny, we will take it from here Chief.
On January 1st at 12:00am, our new Chief took over. Best of luck to him!
