Today’s history lesson:

July 26, 1956 - Rescue efforts coordinated by the United States Coast Guard involving a variety of ships and aircraft. Initial MAYDAY rumored to have been received by CG STA Fire Island.

Most of those rescued were welcomed by the well-equipped SS Ile de France.
