🚑 WANT TO BECOME AN EMT? HERE’S YOUR CHANCE! 🚑

Have you ever thought about becoming an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and starting a career in Emergency Medical Services?

I have been in contact with Roane State Community College, and they are currently planning to offer a Fall 2026 EMT Class at the Jamestown Campus!

I’ve had several people reach out asking about a local EMT class, so we are now gathering information from anyone who may be interested.

Once the information is collected, I will submit it to the Roane State EMS Division. Their staff will then contact interested students directly with additional information and the next steps for enrollment.

🇺🇸☀️ Fentress County EMS Wishes Everyone a Safe and Happy Fourth of July! ☀️🇺🇸

As you celebrate America’s Independence Day with family, friends, cookouts, and fireworks, please remember that a Heat Advisory remains in effect for Fentress County and the Cumberland Plateau until 8:00 PM CDT this evening.

🌡️ Heat index values could reach up to 102°, creating dangerous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors.

The advisory includes the counties of Coffee, Cumberland, Fentress, Grundy, Overton, Pickett, Van Buren, Warren, and White.

⚠️ Hot temperatures and high humidity can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

🧊 Heat Safety Tips:

💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
🏠 Spend time in air-conditioned buildings when possible.
☀️ Limit your time in direct sunlight and seek shade frequently.
👕 Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
⏰ Plan strenuous activities for the early morning or evening hours.
👵👴 Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and those without air conditioning.

🚨 Know the Signs:

Heat Exhaustion Symptoms:

* Heavy sweating
* Weakness or fatigue
* Dizziness
* Nausea
* Headache
* Muscle cramps

Heat Stroke Symptoms (Medical Emergency):

* Confusion or altered mental status
* Loss of consciousness
* Hot, dry skin or profuse sweating
* Body temperature above 103°F
* Seizures

📞 If someone is showing signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately.

🎆 Firework Safety Reminders:

🎇 Only use fireworks legally and according to local regulations.
🎇 Keep fireworks away from homes, vehicles, dry grass, and wooded areas.
🎇 Always have a bucket of water or garden hose nearby.
🎇 Never allow young children to handle or ignite fireworks.
🎇 Never attempt to relight a firework that fails to go off.
🎇 Consider glow sticks or LED alternatives for younger children.

☀️🔥 HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FOR THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU UNTIL 8:00 PM CDT SATURDAY 🔥☀️

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Cumberland Plateau, including Fentress County, due to dangerously hot temperatures and high humidity. These conditions can quickly lead to serious heat-related illnesses if proper precautions are not taken.

🚑 Fentress County EMS encourages everyone to take extra precautions to stay safe in the heat.

🥤 Heat Safety Tips:

✅ Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty.
✅ Stay in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.
✅ Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
✅ Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing.
✅ Limit strenuous outdoor activities to the early morning or evening hours.
✅ Check on elderly family members, neighbors, young children, and those without adequate cooling.
✅ Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, even for a short period of time.

⚠️ Know the Signs of Heat Exhaustion:

* Heavy sweating
* Weakness or fatigue
* Cool, pale, clammy skin
* Dizziness or lightheadedness
* Nausea or vomiting
* Muscle cramps
* Headache
* Fainting

➡️ If someone is experiencing heat exhaustion, move them to a cool place, loosen clothing, provide cool water if they are able to drink, and monitor their condition.

🚨 Heat Stroke is a Medical Emergency:

Signs of heat stroke include:

* Body temperature above 103°F
* Hot, red, dry, or damp skin
* Confusion or altered mental status
* Rapid, strong pulse
* Loss of consciousness
* Seizures
* No sweating despite the heat

📞 Call 911 immediately if you suspect heat stroke. While waiting for help, move the person to a cooler area and begin cooling measures such as cool towels, fans, or ice packs to the neck, armpits, and groin.

Fentress County EMS is asking everyone to stay aware of the conditions, take precautions, and look out for one another during this period of dangerous heat.

A reminder to our community that the Safe Haven Baby Box located at Fentress County EMS is always available for those facing an unthinkable situation and needing a safe, secure, and anonymous option for surrendering a newborn.

The Safe Haven Baby Box is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing parents in crisis with a safe alternative while ensuring infants receive immediate medical care and attention.

No one ever plans to need this resource, but we want our community to know that it is here, it is monitored, and it is ready if needed.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, please remember that help is available and you are not alone.

When minutes matter, these highly skilled crews help us deliver definitive care as quickly as possible by rapidly transporting critically ill and injured patients to specialized facilities across the region. Their partnership, professionalism, and dedication to patient care make a difference every single day.

From the first 911 call to arrival at the hospital, emergency care is truly a team effort, and we are grateful for the strong relationships we share with our air medical partners.

Thank you for your commitment to our patients, our crews, and our community. Together, we continue to provide the highest level of care possible for Fentress County.
