25 years ago today, Ruth Bader Ginsburg was appointed the second women Supreme Court justice to ever serve on the bench. Since her appointment, has demonstrated a passion and fighting spirit for women’s rights, affordable health care, civil rights, marriage equality, & many other crucial issues in this country.

Her continued fight and service for equality for all is proof that we need a nominee whose values line towards a better America. Now more than ever we need to and prevent nominees - who will send us backward, like Brett Kavanaugh from occupying a seat on the bench.

Do not forget her name: Nia Wilson. and know that Black women and girls are at the most dangerous intersection of race and gender, and are often targeted for it. Know that Black women and girls in this country are far too often victims of violence and abuse, but are far too often left out of the discourse around violence and police brutality.

Know that Black women and girls are not safe in our country—a country continuing to embolden white supremacy, misogyny, xenophobia, racism, and hate. Know that white supremacy and toxic masculinity fuel each other, and those most at risk are women of color.

This has to stop. Black women and girls face unrivaled abuse and violence simply for existing—and existing itself means carrying trauma and fear in bodies and embedded in DNA. Nia Wilson was the victim of a country and society that continues to dehumanize, violate, and terrorize Black bodies.

Like Nia's sister Letifah Wilson said, "As young Black women, we shouldn't have to look behind our back. We should be living freely like everybody else.”

We'll keep fighting until this is true, until there is safety, justice, and freedom for us all.
