The Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department respectfully encourages all registered Jamestown voters to attend the upcoming Financial Town Meeting on Monday, June 1st at 7:00 PM to support the proposed bond for a new ladder truck replacement.

Jamestown’s current ladder truck was purchased in 1999 and placed into service in Jamestown in 2001. For over two decades, it has responded to building fires, technical rescues, severe weather incidents, and countless other emergencies throughout our community. As the truck continues to age, maintenance costs are increasing, reliability is decreasing, and replacement parts are becoming harder to obtain.

A new ladder truck would provide:

• Improved firefighter and civilian safety
• Greater reliability during emergencies
• Enhanced firefighting and rescue capabilities
• Reduced long-term maintenance costs
• Better protection for Jamestown homes, businesses, and waterfront properties

Having reliable and dependable emergency apparatus is critical. Investing in a new ladder truck is an investment in the safety and future of Jamestown.

📍 Financial Town Meeting
🗓 Monday, June 1st
🕖 7:00 PM

Thank you for your continued support of the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department and the safety of our community.

On 04/22/2026 at 22:45 hours,

Fire alarm alerted crews to a working fire at Watson Farm, on North Rd. While responding, companies observed visible smoke and fire in the area.

Chief 1 arrived on scene and reported a fully involved 60X80 FT barn with exposures on side A and C. Chief 1 transmitted the working fire signal and held North Rd command.

Engine 2 arrived first due and immediately began fire suppression. A supply line was laid from halfway up the laneway to the fire scene, preparing for a rural water supply operation. Two 1 3/4 attack lines were immediately stretched and began fire suppression as well as protected the immediate exposure which was an occupied residence fifty feet from the fire. Crews ensured all residents were evacuated from the house.

East bay control was contacted to fill in the mutual aid box bringing companies from North Kingstown, Newport, Middletown, and Portsmouth.

As companies arrived on scene, a water supply was secured at a drafting sight approximately four hundred feet from the fire scene. A total of five attack lines were stretched and operated for approximately a half hour before the fire was placed under control.

At that time North Rd command began to release out of town companies. JFD members were on scene for another two hours chasing hot spots and repacking equipment.

The JFD run card was as follows:

Thank you to our mutual aid partners:

Good job by all!

Blizzard of 26’ Update:

The Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department responded to over 15 incidents throughout the duration of the blizzard Sunday night throughout Monday, including reports of smoke in a building, carbon monoxide (CO) alarms, activated fire alarms, power lines down and multiple EMS calls. Despite challenging weather conditions, our volunteers remained ready and responded promptly to ensure the safety of our community.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to our residents for complying with both state and local travel and parking bans. Your cooperation made it significantly safer for first responders and plow operators to navigate the roads and access emergency scenes without delay.

We also want to thank the Jamestown Department of Public Works for their continued hard work and dedication. Their ongoing snow removal efforts throughout the storm played a critical role in keeping our roadways passable and our town moving safely.

As cleanup continues, please remember to check that furnace and dryer vents remain clear of snow, ensure hydrants near your property are accessible if possible, and never ignore a CO alarm.

Thank you for working together to keep our community safe!

🚨Blizzard Warning for Tonight and Tomorrow 🚨

The Jamestown Fire Department is closely monitoring the approaching winter storm expected to impact our area tonight and throughout tomorrow. Forecasts are calling for heavy snowfall, strong winds, and whiteout conditions at times. Travel may become dangerous or impossible during the height of the storm.

We urge all residents to:

• Avoid unnecessary travel once conditions deteriorate
• Ensure vehicles are removed from roadways to assist plow operations
• Check on elderly neighbors and family members
• Charge cell phones and electronic devices
• Have flashlights and extra batteries readily available
• Prepare for possible power outages

🔥 Important Safety Reminders:
• Keep all heating sources clear of flammable materials
• Never use ovens or grills to heat your home
• Make sure carbon monoxide detectors are functioning properly
• Clear snow away from furnace and dryer vents to prevent CO buildup

Once the storm passes, please shovel a path to your nearest fire hydrant if one is near your home. Seconds matter in an emergency.

Our members will be staffed and ready to respond. Your preparation helps keep everyone safe — including first responders.

Please stay safe, stay home if possible, and monitor local weather updates.

The Jamestown Fire Department would like to thank our residents for their patience and cooperation during the storm, especially with adhering to local and state parking bans and weather advisory’s.

As cleanup continues, we ask everyone to please help us by taking a few minutes to:

• Shovel out fire hydrants near your home IF possible
• Check exhaust and heating vents to make sure they are not blocked by snow

Clear hydrants save valuable time during emergencies, and keeping vents clear helps prevent dangerous carbon monoxide buildup.

We appreciate the continued support from our community and thank you for helping us keep Jamestown safe.
