General information

The Mission of the Chautauqua County Child Advocacy Program is to provide a coordinated, multi-disciplinary approach to child victims of sexual and physical absuse. We provide a safe, child friendly place for interviews and support to child victims and their non-offending family members. We are committed to reducing trauma, promoting justice and fostering healing, thereby empowering victims. Why is a Child Advocacy Program Needed? - Every six minutes a child is sexually abused in the Untited States. - Legals, social services, medical and mental health services are designed for adults, not children. - Physical and sexual abuse of children is a problem that touches every community. - In 2006 Chautauqua County received 1,893 reports of suspected child abuse. - Child abuse does not discriminate based on race, economic status or belief. Working Together For Our Children The Chautauqua County Child Advocacy Program is a safe, child-friendly center that supports a multi-disciplinary investigative approach to child physical and sexual abuse allegations. Historically, abused children were shuffled from agency to agency telling their story of abuse and reliving those terrifying moments over and over again. Our Center brings together agencies in one child friendly setting that is physically and psychologically safe. In doing this we reduce unnecessary duplication of interviews thereby lessening the trauma experienced by child victims and non-offending family members, and holding individuals accountable for their victimization of children. The Child Advocacy Program (CAP) started by David Foley under the auspices of the District Attorney's Office brings together under one roof, the following agencies to respond in a cohesive coordinated effort to assist child victims: *District Attorney’s Office *Law Enforcement *Child Protective Services *Medical Services *Therapeutic Services *Victim Advocacy The CAP is the only agency in our community that provides this coordinated service.
