Fifty-nine years ago on this date we lost Trooper Richard G. Brown.





Trooper Richard Brown was struck and killed by a vehicle at an accident scene on Interstate 74 at the 54-mile marker, between the towns of Jamestown and Lizton, in Boone County.

He was struck head-on by a third vehicle that entered the area as he investigated a car-truck accident. Two other individuals were killed and a third person was critically injured as a result of the second accident.

Trooper Brown, from Lebanon, had served with the Indiana State Police for over 12 years and was assigned to the Lafayette post. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Merchant Marine.

Trooper Brown was survived by his wife, son and three daughters.


We will always remember, forever honor, and respect those who serve in their memory!

It’s that time of year when our farmers are working long hours and our country roads get a little more… John Deere. 💚

As you travel throughout Boone County, please keep an eye out for tractors, combines, and other slow moving farm equipment.

🚜 Slow down and be patient. That tractor isn’t trying to ruin your day. It’s trying to feed you.

🌽 Don’t pass unless it’s safe and legal. Saving 45 seconds isn’t worth causing a crash.

👀 Watch for wide turns. Farm equipment may need more room than you expect.

📵 Put the phone down. TikTok will still be there when you get home. The combine in front of you would prefer you make it there, too.

Our farmers have a job to do, and we all have somewhere to be. Give them some room, enjoy the view, and remember: a little patience goes a long way, especially when the vehicle ahead of you has tires taller than your car.

We've had lots of rain, and that means lots of grass/weeds.

Again, we don't care who you have do it, and our community is blessed to be full of hardworking folks who offer these services at reasonable prices. Let's work together to keep Jamestown beautiful and mow/trim/weed-eat, bushhog, graze gerbils, or whatever it takes to keep this town, I would say, the freshest looking small town in three counties....

We've seen instances of people ignoring or moving barricades out of the way in multiple work zones recently. Not only is this illegal, but it is also very unsafe. 👎
