It is with heavy hearts that the Fluvanna Fire Department mourns the passing of one of our own, Past Chief and Past President Daniel Bragg, who passed away on July 30, 2026.
Dan joined the Fluvanna Fire Department in 1981. What followed was 45 years of service to his department, his neighbors, and his community. For 41 of those years, he served as an EMT—answering the call when someone was sick, injured, frightened, or simply needed help.
But numbers alone cannot tell the story of a life devoted to service.
Dan was a Chief, a President, an EMT, a firefighter, a mentor, a friend, and part of the history of this department. He witnessed generations of members come through our doors and helped shape the department we are today.
This photograph was taken during our 100th Anniversary celebration, when we had the privilege of recognizing Dan for his 45 years of dedication. We are especially grateful that we had that opportunity—to place an award in his hands, to thank him, and to let him know how much his lifetime of service meant to us.
There is something especially meaningful about seeing him holding that award now. It represents thousands of hours volunteered, countless calls answered, meetings attended, decisions made, lessons passed down, and 45 years of simply being there when his community needed him.
Fire departments are built from trucks, equipment, and stations—but their true foundation is people like Dan.
His chair may now be empty, but the place he earned in the history and heart of the Fluvanna Fire Department never will be.
Rest easy, Chief.
Thank you for 45 years of service, 41 years of caring for others as an EMT, and a lifetime of dedication to Fluvanna.
Firefighter service will be this Sunday August 16th 2026 at 1pm at our fire department Fluvanna station 1 located at 3546 Fluvanna Ave, Jamestown NY 14701
We will take it from here.
