Today is the last day of the first week of school. We were able to be present on several bus routes and at several school zones throughout the week, issuing multiple citations for various school safety and other vehicle code violations. Although the school week is coming to an end, your safe driving habits shouldn't stop. We will continue to show our presence on bus routes and school zones throughout the year. Please continue to drive with caution.

Today our officers focused on school zone speed limits. The posted school zone speed limit is 25 miles per hour. It is imperative that drivers follow the speed limit as it will allow their vehicles to come to a complete stop in a shorter amount of time if a hazard presents itself. With the first week of school coming to an end, we want to urge all drivers to continue to abide by the speed limit throughout the entire school year as we will continue to focus on these violations.

Today, many students in Tuolumne County began their school year. To ensure the students safety, we deployed several CHP units on certain bus routes and issued citations for failing to stop for school bus flashing red lights. This enforcement will continue all week long and will include speed enforcement in a school zone. The CHP would like to remind all motorists to take extra precautions when traveling around school buses and through school zones.

Several schools in Tuolumne County will begin classes this week. As students head back to class, remember to slow down and stay alert around school buses and school zones. When a school bus stops with its lights flashing red, STOP and WAIT until the lights stop flashing and it's safe to proceed. The CHP will deploy additional officers out this week specifically looking for violators who choose to put students and bus drivers in danger by not stopping for the flashing red lights on the school bus. We will also be enforcing the 25 mile per hour school zone speed limit.

Off-highway vehicles are designed for off-road use, not for public streets or highways. They lack the safety equipment required for street use and can put you, your passengers and other motorists at risk. If you choose to drive one on public roadways and are contacted by law enforcement, your vehicle could be impounded.
