Thanks everyone for an incredible season! The last day we are (partially) open will be October 31st! We truly accomplished some unprecedented things in the Naturalist program this year and we are feeling bittersweet wrapping up our last active naturalist center this week at Beavertail. We've already began releasing our animals back into the ocean and we are working on finding homes for all the Gulf Stream Orphans (baby tropical fish that get stranded in RI from the gulf stream current) in the next week or so. If you visit us this week, you may notice our live exhibits are a lot more sparse or empty- don't be sad it's over, get excited for next year and happy that our fish our now out living their best lives in the ocean!
Thanks again for helping make our dreams come true in this space with your earnest patronage and willingness to learn! Can't wait till next year!

Join us for a short guided hike focused on pollinators and the local wildflowers and plants they sustain. Beavertail hosts extensive habitats for migrating birds and pollinators and is an important stop along the monarch butterfly migration route.
We will be taking photos of and identifying different pollinators to add to RI Fish & Wildlife’s INaturalist Pollinator Project, a community science project designed to help monitor pollinator populations across our state. Join us for the last day of summer at Beavertail while we observe and revere the beautiful creatures that keep our park green and flowering!
Hike Begins at 12:30 in parking lot 1 at Beavertail State Park.

The RI State Parks Naturalist Program invites you to experience the magic of
bioluminescence! Starting at 5:30PM on Friday, September 5th, we will have a mini
darkroom set up for viewing the glowing properties of ctenophores, also called comb
jellies! Ctenophores are the oldest creatures on earth, and scientists think they adapted
their glowing properties to ward off predators. They require full darkness to glow- so this
is a rare opportunity to see comb jellies light up without staying up late! The Aquarium
will be open till 7:30 and the darkroom will be open as long as supplies (comb jellies)
last! Come watch the sunset and enjoy a glowing evening at the aquarium!

Bring bathing suits, water shoes, and towels! Wetsuits, waders, and flashlights are welcome. Long pants you feel comfortable getting wet in are specifically recommended for East Beach due to the potential for Jellyfish.

These events are free but registration is required. Register here:
