Ground was broken today in Dunkirk for the Homesteads at Dunkirk Landing project, with Governor Kathy Hochul on hand to mark the occasion.

A project being developed by Regan Development Corp and made possible, in part, through support from the CCIDA, the Homesteads project will result in the creation of 78 new workforce housing apartments along Washington Avenue and also at East 4th Street.

Of the 78 units, 11 units will be built as fully accessible and adapted for residents with mobility and/or hearing/vision impairments, and 16 units will be set aside for New York State’s Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI.) The ESSHI provider will be Soldier On, a program that helps homeless Veterans find housing and provides supportive services.

There will also be commercial space for daycare operations at the East 4th Street location.

Both buildings are tentatively scheduled for completion by the end of November 2027.

Congratulations to The White Inn for receiving the 2026 Buffalo Business First Brick by Brick Award, focusing on Adaptive Re-Use.

"This $8 million project by S. St. George Enterprises took a historic hotel in Fredonia and made it into a full-service boutique hotel, dining and event destination. Built in 1868 and operating as an inn and restaurant until 2017, the restored White Inn is now a landmark that helps to boost tourism, support downtown businesses, and strengthen the local economy."

The CCIDA was pleased to nominate the project for this award, and we're excited to see it win and receive well-deserved attention across the Western New York Region!

HOUSING PROJECT UPDATE:

Progress is being made with the Homesteads at Dunkirk Landing project along Washington Avenue and also 4th Street. Here are some timeline photos of the Washington Avenue site - including how the space looked in March, May, and July!

A total of 48 units will be built at the Washington Avenue location, while 30 units will be built at the East 4th Street location, along with a daycare space.

Of the 78 total units, 11 units will be built as fully accessible and adapted for residents with mobility and/or hearing/vision impairments, and 16 units will be set aside for New York State’s Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI.) The ESSHI provider will be Soldier On, a program that helps homeless Veterans find housing and provides supportive services.

The total project investment is estimated at $38.2 million.

“This project will provide needed workforce housing for the City of Dunkirk along with on-site daycare operations, which are key components to attracting young, working families to our county. It will also serve as a transformative project for the city by removing blight and supporting walkability and vitality to the City’s urban core.”
