Jane Lew Lions Club Membership Chair and Zone 9 Chair Beth White stands beside 71 pounds of plastic dropped off at the Upshur County Recycling Center on June 3 for the second quarter of the NextTrex Recycling Challenge. The JLLC members and businesses in the area donate certain plastic to be recycled. JLLC has been working on this for over a year and has donated well over a 1000 pounds of plastic.

Jane Lew Lions Club had Special Guest Speaker at our scheduled meeting this evening. Lewis County Commissioner Robert Stewart spoke to the club about some of the updates and new features coming to the Jane Lew Park. Playground will be given an update with new equipment and a better, safer material replacing the gravel. In addition, a new Splash Pad will be installed. The Jane Lew Lions Club greatly appreciate Commissioner Stewart coming and speaking to our club.

Congratulations to Adaleigh Curry and Brady Smith, outstanding members of the Lewis County High School Class of ’26, for receiving the Phillip A. “Bud” Vanscoy Memorial Scholarship. Each student will receive a one-time $1,000 award to attend an accredited one- or two-year vocational or technical school. The Jane Lew Lions Club presents this scholarship annually. We celebrate Adaleigh and Brady’s achievement and wish them success in their future careers. Jane Lew Lions Club President Linda Aman and Zone 9 Chairperson Beth White presented each student with a certificate and purple-and-gold graduating cords.

Doddridge County Parks hosted the annual Mountain State Scottish & Celtic Gathering Saturday, bringing together visitors from across the region to celebrate the rich traditions and cultural heritage of Scotland, Ireland, and other Celtic nations.

Zone 9 Lions from Jane Lew, and West Milford participate in educational programs and district elections for 2027 officers

The West Virginia Lions Club Convention for Multiple District 29 gathered May 15–17 at Canaan Valley Redsort in Davis, WV., with Zone 9 representatives from the Jane Lew Lions Club and West Milford Lions Club in attendance. The event featured an address by Debbie Dawson, International Director of Lions Clubs International from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, along with a series of educational Lion program classes and elections for the district’s 2027 officers.
