✨ Windows of Possibility: Storefront Spotlight

Our first storefront spotlight takes us to 121 E. Milwaukee Street. While the space may be empty at the moment, exciting plans are already taking shape!

Coming in 2028, this historic building is set to become The London Boutique Hotel, The James Bookshop & Café, and Winston's Speakeasy. It's going to become a destination of curated ambiance, literature, and luxury, featuring elegant rooms where you can unwind, a cozy café where you'll lose yourself in a good book, and a speakeasy where the night comes alive.

Meet another one of our featured artists: Grace Bevec!

From Grace: "As long as I can remember I have loved to paint. As a child I would spend most summer days painting on the beach with my grandma and I have found that whatever stage of life I am in nothing compares to the feeling of a paint brush in my hand and an idea in my mind.

In this piece I wanted to represented how it felt to open yourself up to love when you have spent your whole life avoiding it. You need to discard the armor you have worked so hard to build, parts can be easy, parts can be very very messy, but the labor is worth it if you do it correctly."

Meet one of our featured artists: Lilli Rick!

From Lilli: "I'm in my final year of art school, and these past few years have shaped who I am as person and an artist. I'm finally discovering my own style and the mediums that I opt for when creating. Now I have the opportunity to share work I'm truly proud of alongside other artists who inspire me.

My passion drives me to create not only for myself, but for others. I see art as a source of light in the world, and if I can offer even a small piece of that light to my community, I'll be deeply grateful."

Downtown Janesville's newest art gallery doesn't have four walls, it has storefront windows!

We're so excited to introduce "Windows of Possibility", a new storefront initiative transforming available downtown spaces into a free, self-guided walking gallery featuring original artwork from local artists. As you explore, each window also shares information about the available storefront itself, highlighting the possibilities waiting for future businesses.

We'll be hosting a special Gallery Night & Silent Auction on Saturday, August 15 (more info on this to come!) but most artwork will continue to brighten downtown storefronts through Art Infusion on September 4–6.

Exploring downtown this weekend? As you stroll through the DORA district between noon & 10 PM, keep an eye out for the DORA 'Beverages Welcome' window cling at your favorite shops and businesses!

When you spot one, you can bring your DORA beverage inside while you shop like at Reverie Dry Goods.

The first day of Janesville's Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) begins tomorrow, June 25, at noon!

Picture this: you're waiting for a table at your favorite downtown restaurant, taking in a beautiful summer sunset, or showing friends from out of town around local shops—with a refreshing drink in hand.

A few things to know:
➡️ Janesville's DORA will be active daily from noon to 10 PM starting tomorrow.
➡️ Boundary markers will be installed throughout downtown tomorrow morning.
➡️ A full list of participating establishments will be available on our website.

Your BID has been hard at work this year communicating with and supporting our property owners and businesses, fostering improvements through facade grants, and creating ways to activate our downtown.

Recently, BID worked with downtown stakeholders to create a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) - with support from JPD and City staff. On May 26, city council unanimously approved a temporary DORA ordinance to assist with additional activation and entertainment options for our downtown members, citizens, and visitors.

The BID task-force is now in the operational phase and a formal launch day will be announced soon.
