These students are part of a home maintenance class in Washington. Public Schools all over Indiana offer classes that are practical, college prep and career building to provide opportunities to the broad spectrum of students in each school. A year from now, we will be electing our next state legislators that will determine how much funding our public schools will receive. Think about these students and all of the great work of our public schools and teachers when you vote.

The Home Maintenance class at WHS is learning about home appliance repair and troubleshooting problems. The students are told that the electric dryer is taking too long to dry clothes and not getting hot. After learning the basics of how to use a multimeter, they then use the multimeter to check the various electrical components for continuity to determine what the faulty part is. Each dryer has a different faulty part. Once the part is found we look up what it would cost to repair the dryer and then
determine, based on age of the appliance, warranty, and wear and tear, if it is cost effective to replace or repair it.

Please contact the House Education Committee TODAY and tell them NO on House Bill 1005 that will increase Voucher amount and open up the income limits to nearly everyone. This is a terrible bill and we must stop it! Email the committee:

Please co tact your legislator!

What we’re asking you to do:

STEP 1: Send messages now to your own legislators and to House Education Committee members. Tell them you oppose House Bill 1005 because:

The $202 million price tag for only the first two years is huge and should instead be directed to boosting teacher pay.

HB 1005 would divert millions from public schools at a time they need stable support.

It is wrong in this economic climate to prioritize giving extra tax money to high income private school parents who are already able to pay private school tuition.

Delete Chapters 1 through 6 from HB 1005 to prevent public dollars from going to home schools and independent unaccredited schools with no accountability

STEP 2: Email the Governor

Ask Governor Holcomb to oppose the Education Savings Accounts and voucher expansion in HB 1005 if he is sincere in saying in his State of the State address: “those (parental choice) options shouldn’t come at the expense of the public school system, which educates 90% of Hoosier children.”

Voucher expansion and Education Savings Accounts would divert at least $202 million from public schools.
