Newton County passes election audit
Staff Report
The State Board of Election Commissioners, under direction of the Arkansas Secretary of State, as directed by Act 620 of 2023, conducted an audit of the 2024 General Election held in Newton County. The audit entails a hand count and comparison of election results as reported on election night. Each precinct, along with provisional and absentee voting, is analyzed to verify that tabulation printouts and actual ballot totals agree.
The county received a 100% accuracy score.
Newton County Clerk, Donnie Davis, made note that this particular audit was number 3 for the county since the Voter Integrity Legislation has been enacted and each audit has garnered a 100% accuracy recognition. Davis attributed this achievement to the dedication of Newton County's citizens who, willingly, serve as poll workers. Their investment in training, and sacrificing of their time, to ensure that all voters have a fair, easy and secure voting experience, makes it all possible, he said.
Stanley Taylor, Newton County Election Coordinator, noted that the county clerk, his staff, the Newton County Election Commission, and county poll workers all work toward one goal and that is to guarantee the constitutional right of every citizen to have their voice heard.
Charlie Morris, of the SBEC, presented a letter of recognition to Davis for the county's level of voting integrity.
