On this perfect morning the Big Canoe Fire Department had its monthly “Breakfast with the Brothers” event. It’s wonderful when the full-time firefighters coming off their 24-hour shift and the firefighters starting a new shift have breakfast with many Volunteer Firefighters.

Nothing like sharing breakfast to strengthen bonds and enhance esprit de corps.

The Big Canoe Fire Department just took delivery of a new Stryker Motorized Stair Chair. This new piece of equipment will allow our Paramedics, EMT’s and Firefighters to move patients up and down flights of stairs more efficiently, and with less risk of injury to the patient.

The device was purchased jointly by the BCVFD and the Big Canoe POA.

Big Canoe Public Safety and the BCVFD have been preparing for the ice storm for days. We have had regular briefings, discussed various scenarios and prepared gear and equipment.

An emergency shelter has been set up in the Overlook Room of the Clubhouse (see POA email announcement).

BCVFD personnel attended an 8-hour training program on Hazardous Materials Awareness and Response at the Pickens County Emergency Operations Center in Jasper on Saturday, December 6.

This was a valuable review class, providing an opportunity to stay updated and proficient, even after 40+ years of experience in this subject matter.
