UPDATE: Roadway open at 6:47am.

US Highway 190 at Dam B bridge is currently closed in both directions for a traffic accident and landing zone for medical helicopter.

Today BGVFD received a Training Aids grant from the Fire Department Assistance - Texas A&M Forest Service in the amount of $15,000!

This grant will be utilized to purchase an additional propane training prop to be used at our local fire training field, the Charles E. Gee Memorial Fire Training Facility. Propane fire props are a clean and simple way to simulate real life fire emergencies. All training equipment for the fire training field has previously been purchased by Jasper County Emergency Services District # 4.

BGVFD and the communities we serve are very excited and proud to receive this grant and acknowledge the many years of realistic fire training it will provide!

UPDATE 1:37PM

Trucking company has a hazmat cleanup crew enroute to clean up spilled diesel. Both westbound lanes are now open.

Please approach with caution and be watchful of the workers in the area who are cleaning up the spilled fuel. Please reduce your speed as you approach the scene.

Thanks to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office - TX and Deputy Vern Kaylor and Jasper County Emergency Services District # 4 Coordinator Brad Parsons for the assistance.

Currently on scene of a diesel spill near the intersection of US Highway 190 and FM 777 in the Beech Grove Community. One westbound lane of US Highway 190 is closed.

Please use caution if in the area.

A burn ban was issued by Jasper County Judge Mark Allen yesterday!

Red flag warning is in effect today!

Please do not burn!

Conditions are such that any outdoor fire that ignites will rapidly spread!

FROM BATON ROUGE TO BEECH GROVE!

Today members of the Beech Grove VFD and Jasper County ESD 4 traveled to US Fire Apparatus in Holden, Louisiana to accept delivery of our first new fire truck!

The 2027 Freightliner M2-106 chassis has an extruded aluminum fire apparatus body with plentiful hose and equipment storage, 1500gpm pump, 1800 gallon water tank, and a Hale foam system with a 50 gallon foam tank.

The new truck cost $540,761, of which $300,000 of it will be covered by a grant from the Fire Department Assistance - Texas A&M Forest Service and the balance of $240,761 paid by budgeted funds from Jasper County Emergency Services District # 4.

Once completely outfitted and placed in service, it will be housed in our newest station in the Dixie Community, proudly serving the Dixie, Curtis, Bevilport, and Beech Grove communities.

Stott, JCESD 4 Coordinator Brad Parsons, BGVFD Captain Leonard Johnston, and Kevin Lentz, Sales Representative for US Fire Apparatus.

Just ten short years ago, BGVFD was born in barn after Beech Grove community members met and decided to start a fire department in the community.

10 years later and we now serve 70 square miles utilizing 2 engines, 2 tankers, 2 brush trucks, Polaris UTV, ProDrive boat, and a high water vehicle.

Until now, most every piece of this equipment has been donated by the community, local businesses, and other fire departments!

Community support at all levels has led to these accomplishments.

Controlled debris fire gets out of control.

At 10:56am BGVFD was dispatched to a reported brush fire threatening structures and burning adjacent to a large pile of tires on FM 777 about 1.5 miles north of US Highway 190.

Arriving units found a debris pile and travel trailer on fire. Property owners were present and were actively working to control the fire.

The controlled debris fire escaped containment and had burned to the edge of the pile of tires before fire spread was stopped. The travel trailer was being torn down at the time of the fire.

BGVFD responded with B11, B12, T11 and 5 firefighters.
