🚛 Labor Day Week Garbage Collection Schedule

There will be no garbage collection on Monday, September 7 due to the Labor Day holiday.

👉 All routes will be delayed by one day, starting with Monday routes collected on Tuesday.

Another investment in Jasper’s streets! 🚧

The City of Jasper’s new pothole patcher arrived today and will soon be put to work throughout the city!

This new equipment will allow our Street Department to make more efficient, higher-quality pothole repairs, giving our crews another valuable tool as they continue to maintain Jasper’s streets and serve our community well.

Investing in the right equipment means giving our City employees the tools and resources they need to do their jobs effectively and keep Jasper moving forward.

We’re excited to put this one to work! 👏🚧

The City of Jasper and the The Chamber of Commerce of Walker County invite the community to Doughnuts & Discussion: FOCUS 2030, an opportunity to learn more about the City’s new five-year strategic plan and the priorities that will help guide Jasper through 2030.

FOCUS 2030 was developed with extensive community input and provides a roadmap for Jasper’s continued progress, addressing areas such as infrastructure, economic growth and opportunity, quality of life, education and youth development, and strong, effective local government.

The City of Jasper is always exploring practical, cost-effective ways to improve services and create new opportunities for our residents and businesses. One area we are continuing to explore is how we can expand recycling opportunities right here in Jasper. ♻️

We are grateful to the Alabama Recycling Coalition for the recycling materials and resources they recently provided to the City. The Coalition brings together local governments, businesses, nonprofits, and manufacturers to advance recycling efforts and industry growth across Alabama.

As we consider what recycling initiatives could work best for Jasper, the Coalition is a valuable resource, helping educate communities about available opportunities, connect them with resources and partners, and provide support as they develop local recycling efforts.

We appreciate their partnership and look forward to continuing to explore resourceful and sustainable solutions for Jasper! 💚♻️

The City of Jasper is proud to be a part of the Carl Elliott Institute, an investment in the next generation of leaders in our community.

Through our partnership with Bevill State Community College, the Walker Area Community Foundation, and the Walker College Foundation, the Carl Elliott Institute gives Bevill State students opportunities to develop their leadership skills, engage with community leaders, explore issues facing our area, and put those experiences into action through meaningful community projects.

This past weekend, this year’s Carl Elliott Institute Scholars had the incredible opportunity to attend the 2026 Gloria and John L. Blackburn Academic Symposium at The University of Alabama. The annual two-day symposium brings together students, Fellows, advisory board members, and community and state leaders for speakers, discussions, and conversations centered on leadership and the future of Alabama.

What a privilege for these young leaders to begin their year with an experience like this, learning alongside people from across our state and seeing firsthand the impact that thoughtful, engaged leadership can have on a community.

We are grateful for the partners who make the Carl Elliott Institute possible and proud to play a role in creating opportunities that encourage talented young people to lead, serve, and invest in the future of Jasper and Walker County.

Sometimes giving back makes a BIG difference. ❤️

A huge thank you to All Sides Pressure Washing, who recently offered to clean the historic stone bridge at Town Creek Park completely free of charge to the City of Jasper.

Built in 1939 as a WPA project during the New Deal, this beautiful bridge was constructed using stone pulled directly from Town Creek. Decades of moss, algae and buildup had hidden much of that original stonework, and the transformation is incredible!

We are grateful to All Sides Pressure Washing for donating their time, equipment and expertise to help preserve and showcase this special piece of Jasper history.

If you haven’t visited Town Creek Park lately, stop by and check it out! Located next to Maddox Intermediate School, the park offers a playground, picnic areas, a fitness pocket park and a little piece of history right over Town Creek.

JASPER MAIN STREET RECOGNIZES THE 2026 MAIN STREET HERO

Jasper Main Street is proud to announce the recognition of its 2026 Main Street Hero, honored during the Toast to Heroes Reception, sponsored by Regions Bank, held in conjunction with the annual Main Street Alabama Awards of Excellence Banquet in Enterprise, Alabama.

Each designated Main Street program across Alabama selects a Main Street Hero to recognize an individual, business, or organization whose dedication, leadership, and service have made an outstanding contribution to their local Main Street program and community.

“Jasper’s Mayor, Josh Gates was chosen as our Main Street Hero this year for his unwavering support, dedication and positive impact to Jasper Main Street and the City of Jasper,” said Mike Putman, executive director of Jasper Main Street.

Celebrating some of the people who serve Jasper so well! 👏

At today’s City Council meeting, Mayor Josh Gates took a few minutes to recognize City employees whose hard work, leadership, and dedication make a difference in our community every day.

Congratulations to Ryan Brewer and Octavious Dockery of the Jasper Police Department on their recent promotions to Sergeant, and Jeremiah Alexander on his promotion to Captain. Mayor Gates recognized the three for the consistency, dependability, and professionalism they bring to their service to Jasper.

The Mayor also recognized Hope Kilgore, Joshua Dotson, and Kent Hall with the City of Jasper Street Department. This crew has been hard at work throughout the summer, tackling projects across Jasper as part of the City’s ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance the appearance of our community. From crosswalks and rights-of-way to projects throughout the city, their work is making a visible difference.

We are fortunate to have dedicated employees across every City department working behind the scenes each day to keep Jasper moving forward.
