The roadway is back open

🚧 TRAFFIC ALERT 🚧

Deputies are currently on the scene of an overturned tractor trailer at Highway 108 and Upper Dowda Mill Road. No injuries have been reported.

The roadway will remain closed while crews work to remove the tractor trailer from the roadway. Please avoid the area and use an alternate route if possible.

𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗭𝗘𝗡𝗦! 🔥🚫

Due to ongoing extreme fire weather and drought conditions, the Pickens County Fire Chief and Fire Marshal’s Office have made the decision to implement a burn ban effective immediately.

This burn ban will remain in place until October 1.

At this time, outdoor burning is prohibited with the exception of small, controlled fires such as those used for cooking, warming, and recreational bonfires. All allowable fires must be attended at all times and conducted safely.

This decision has been made in the interest of public safety. Current conditions, combined with limited available wildfire suppression resources in our region, significantly increase the risk of uncontrolled fire spread.

This burn ban is subject to change should weather conditions change.

🔥SUNDAY 4/19: No outdoor burning AGAIN today. We have a Red Flag Warning in effect for almost all of North Georgia and Metro Atlanta.

A Red Flag Warning is the most serious alert. It is issued when critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or will occur within 24 hours. The criteria usually involve a of three factors: low humidity, winds, and dry fuels (grass, brush, and timber that are cured or exceptionally dry).

When this is issued, any fire that starts will likely spread rapidly and be very difficult to control. Residents are urged to avoid all outdoor burning and any activities that could cause a spark.

Despite this mornings light showers, the air will dry out very quickly as the cold from passes, while the wind is gusting upwards of 25-30 mph.

Tonight was truly a bittersweet evening at Bethany Salem. We gathered together as a department and family to honor Butch Hollingsworth for 25 years of faithful service to our community. For a quarter of a century, Butch has answered the call, sacrificed time with his family, and served with dedication, courage, and heart. His legacy will forever be part of Bethany Salem.

At the same time, we celebrated a new chapter as Chad Hendren was promoted to Assistant Chief. Chad has big shoes to fill, but we know his leadership and commitment will help carry this department forward.

Nights like tonight remind us that the fire service is more than a job — it’s a family, a calling, and a legacy passed from one set of hands to the next.

A special thank you to Copper Nickel engraving for the beautiful plaque that perfectly commemorates this meaningful moment. 🚒❤️
