Walker County Conservation District

Walker County Conservation District “Working to conserve our natural resources so future generations can enjoy the same Walker County and Alabama the Beautiful we know and love.”

“For nearly 80 years, Walker County Conservation District has committed to conserving Walker County’s natural resources by connecting those who use and work the land to the education, technical know-how, and resources they need. This stewardship revived the landscape from the devastation of the 1930s and continues to improve quality of life for
all Alabama citizens. The Walker County Conservation

District is part of a statewide movement in the conservation of Alabama’s natural resources: Conserve Alabama. Conserve Alabama is an initiative of the State of Alabama Soil & Water Conservation Committee to reenergize and unite stakeholders in the effort to be good stewards of our land and water. With a growing population and increased demand of resources in the 21st Century, it's
more important than ever that we use our resources wisely. Join us to Conserve Alabama!”

What a great event this was, our DAC Stacy Williams, had a great time discussing the water cycle.

The growing season is still getting started, and with all the unpredictable Alabama weather we've been having, there’s still plenty of time to get those vegetables in the ground.

As you plant and prepare for harvest, don’t forget to join Alabama Extension’s Grow More, Give More 250 lb Challenge, a great way to share fresh produce with your community. https://www.aces.edu/go/6066

And just like the garden, our lawns are coming back to life. If you have questions about planting, landscaping, or lawn care, Alabama Extension is here to help. Complete the Master Gardener Help Request form to connect with local experts. https://www.aces.edu/go/3352

Yesterday, we held our Water Festival for 4th-grade students in Walker County. They got to do three hands-on activities that teach them about the Water Cycle, pollution, and how it gets into our water. Then they got to build their very own aquifer and eat it afterwards.
Special thanks to our sponsors that help fund this project through grants, sponsorships, and in-kind donations: Cawaco RC&D, Walker County Farmers Federation, Coca-Cola, and Alabama Soil and Water Conservation Committee.
We would also like to thank our volunteers; without you, this event would not be possible!!!

Tuesday, we kicked off the Walker County Water Festival at Sumiton Christian.
We had a wonderful time with Ms. Short's class discussing the water cycle, pollution, and how it gets into our water. Discussed what it takes to clean it up by using filters to try to get the water clean. Then we built an aquifer that they could eat. I bet you can guess which one was their favorite.
