What a special week for our community and our State Champions!

Chairman Kris Stancil was honored to present a proclamation on behalf of the Pickens County Board of Commissioners recognizing the Pickens High School Baseball Team for its historic 2026 GHSA AAA State Championship.

The proclamation recognized the team’s hard work, determination, sportsmanship, and achievement in bringing home Pickens County’s first-ever baseball state championship. It also officially proclaimed May 28, 2026, as a day of celebration in honor of the team’s accomplishment.

Chairman Stancil also unveiled new championship signs that will soon be installed at entrances throughout the county, ensuring this historic achievement is recognized and celebrated for years to come.

Congratulations to the players, coaches, families, and supporters who helped make this season one for the history books. Thank you for making Pickens County proud. ⚾🐉🏆

All Pickens County Government offices will be closed on Monday, May 25th, in observance of Memorial Day. The Recycling Center will also be closed on Tuesday, reopening on Wednesday, May 27th.

As we enjoy the holiday weekend, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. We wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day weekend!

🚧 FULL WEEKEND CLOSURE ALERT 🚧

All lanes of I-285 (NB/SB) between MLK Jr. Drive and Cascade Road will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday, May 15 through 5 a.m. Monday, May 18.

Expect major delays across metro Atlanta, including heavy congestion on I-20, I-75/I-85, and SR 166.

This closure supports the ongoing I-285 Westside reconstruction project.

𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗭𝗘𝗡𝗦!💧

Due to ongoing drought conditions across Georgia, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has issued a Statewide Level 1 Drought Response Declaration for public water systems.

This means Pickens County is now under Level 1 Drought Response conditions.

At this level, there are no mandatory restrictions, but residents and businesses are strongly encouraged to practice water conservation and be good stewards of our water resources.

A Level 1 response focuses on awareness and everyday conservation efforts, including:

• Regularly checking for and repairing leaks inside and outside your home
• Turning off the tap while brushing teeth, shaving, or washing dishes
• Only watering landscaping when necessary and avoiding runoff onto roads or sidewalks

Outdoor Watering Guidelines:
General landscape watering is allowed between 4:00 PM and 10:00 AM daily

The following activities may be done at any time:
• Watering personal food gardens
• Watering new plants, seed, or turf (up to 30 days after installation)
• Drip irrigation or soaker hoses
• Hand watering with a hose that has an automatic shutoff

This declaration is intended to reduce strain on water resources as drought conditions persist across the state.
