On May 24, 2022, a tragic event took place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. On September 1, 2025, House Bill 33 (HB 33) - also known as the Uvalde Strong Act - went into effect. HB 33 laid out new responsibilities and standards for law
enforcement preparedness, response coordination, and school-safety protocols. A major component of HB 33 is the requirement that a peace officer whose duties involve the supervision of officers in incident response to complete an advanced incident response and command courses.
NIMS/ICS training improves communication, identifies the event command structure and helps everyone participating understand their role. Jasper ISD Police in partnership with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) hosted this state mandated training at Jasper High School for 50 participants from various different law enforcement agencies, fire departments/emergency services districts, and other state agencies throughout Southeast Texas.
