MON 8-31-26 10:10AM - Road is OPEN

Work was completed early Saturday AM - we will be paving the area that was torn up starting at 9:00AM Monday, August 31st. It it a relatively small area, so we don’t anticipate it take long.

Westbound travel will be detoured onto Ridgewood to Burnt Mountain, and eastbound travel will be detoured onto Georgianna to Bell, back to 53E.

The contractor working on the GEFA funded Sanitary Sewer Collection System Rehab has discovered an issue with our gravity sewer line in the center turn lane of SR 53 E in front of Speedburger. We are working with GDOT to close the center lane Friday, August 28, 2026, starting at 11:00PM to excavate down and fix the pipe.

It is likely that the westbound travel lane headed towards downtown will need to be closed. If that is the case, westbound traffic will be detoured onto Ridgewood Road, out to Burnt Mountain Road. Depending on the depth of excavation, eastbound travel may also need to be closed and detoured onto Georgianna Street to Bell Avenue to E Church Street. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘇𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝟱𝟲𝟮 𝗘 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁.

We will not know how long it will take to replace the damaged piece of gravity sewer main until we can remove the asphalt. Our goal is to have everything buttoned up Saturday afternoon, and then be ready for paving on Monday or Tuesday. Whichever day paving occurs, there will be a 3-4 hour period where we must close that center travel lane again to pave, but we'll keep you posted on scheduling.

SR 53 E/ E Church Street is OPEN in the vicinity of Speedburger. The utility work went fairly smoothly last night, and we’ll be back to pave on Monday or Tuesday.

𝙊𝙣𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙠 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙮 - 𝙞𝙩'𝙨 Sheriff's Jeepfest 𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙉 𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚!

Jeeps will be EVERYWHERE next week in Downtown Jasper GA - thank you to the Pickens County Georgia Sheriff's Office's Foundation for putting on a wonderful event that benefits the children of our community!

While there's trail riding, mud bogging, and more planned for the event, Friday, September 4th is all about the SHOW! Come to Main Street in Downtown Jasper to ooh and aah over some of the coolest jeeps around, visit the shops/merchants/vendors, and enjoy some live music! Similar to years past, the City will close some roads downtown to enable everyone participating to have a great, safe time:

12noon - N Main Street between SR 53/W Church Street and DB Carrol Street will close, along with Depot Street and Court Street
1:00PM - S Main Street between SR 53/W Church Street and Spring Street will close
4:30PM - Side Streets will close - Wall Street, S East Street, and N East Street
5:00PM - The intersection of Main Street and SR 53/W Church Street will close

Spring Street may be used as the east-west detour route through town, and Mark Whitfield Street may be used for the north-south detour.

A second area of concern in the roadway has been discovered, which requires the road closure to be extended down to the intersection with Burnt Mountain Road. We are working on a plan to ensure that residents & emergency services in this area can get in and out - there is NO thru travel though.

🚧Indian Forest Road between Navaho and Choctaw is in the process of being CLOSED due to an area in the roadway that appears to have a void under the asphalt. 🚧

We are in the process of contacting the School system and E911. We’ll provide additional details as soon as we have them.

Monument Removal - Take Two 🎬....

The contractor plans to remove the vertical panels on 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟱𝘁𝗵 - the base will be assessed Tuesday and possibly removed as well - and then haul the pieces to Blue Ridge Marble & Granite Co. in Nelson for safe keeping while a game plan and cost estimate for restoration is developed.

At this point, we plan to leave N Main Street open during while the removal work is being performed; however, may need to close the block between Mark Whitfield Street and DB Carrol Street should field conditions require it. The sidewalk and parking spaces in front of Denson Insurance will be closed on both Monday (contractor bringing equipment in this afternoon) and Tuesday, and the entrance to the wooden bridge (Chambers Street) will also be closed for equipment/machinery.
