Training Day!
Today's training was for a simulated structure fire using the pavilion at the Rod and Reel Dog Park as a proxy. We began at Station One by rolling Engine Two with 5 firefighters as the fire attack engine, followed by our tanker Engine 3, responsible for establishing the hydrant water supply to Engine 2. Upon arrival at the scene, Engine 2 firefighters, in full protective gear and breathing air from their SCBA's, deployed 300 feet of 2.5-inch hose and a gated wye valve with one attack line and nozzle. We also conducted a search for a victim, who in this scenario was found unresponsive in the restroom. The victim was rescued, with firefighters conducting CPR and then using an AED. The hose team extinguished the fire, using 25% of Engine Two's tank water before the 5-inch hose from the hydrant was connected to Engine Two. Once the first training rotation was finished, we debriefed and while it generally went very well, there are always thing to improve upon, so we did a second rotation from again deploying the 2.5-inch hose forward. During this training we focused on improving the basics ranging from improving response time, deploying in full PPE and SCBA upon arrival, fire ground radio communications, hose deployment, pump panel operations, search and rescue and proper deployment of our EMTs on the attack/search team, just to name a few. Once again, a good morning of training with a lot of moving parts that reinforced the skills needed to be effective volunteer firefighters.
