Today at approximately 3:50 PM, Allentown Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire in the 8000 block of Highway 89.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a shed adjacent to a residence fully involved. Crews quickly worked to contain the fire and prevent further extension to the nearby home. The residence sustained minor damage, while the shed was a total loss.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by a lightning strike.

We would like to thank Station 22, Station 24, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office, and Lifeguard Ambulance Service for their assistance on the scene.

No injuries were reported.

🔥 Heads up for Saturday 🔥

The National Weather Service is calling for elevated fire danger tomorrow with dry air and gusty winds moving in.

• Humidity dropping near 20%

• Winds 10–15 mph with higher gusts

It won’t take much for a fire to get out of hand fast in these conditions.

🚫 We’re asking everyone to hold off on any outdoor burning tomorrow.

Even small burn piles could turn into a bigger problem quick.

We appreciate everyone helping us keep things safe.

🔥Brush Fire Response – Escambia River Area 🚒

Earlier today, our department responded to a brush fire in the woods off the Escambia River that was started by last night’s lightning.

The location was only accessible by boat, so crews had to load up hand tools, water extinguishers, and chainsaws and travel by river to reach the fire. With high winds and low humidity, spot fires were beginning to pop up, increasing the potential for rapid spread.

We requested assistance from the Florida Forest Service, who responded with a portable pump to draft water directly from the river to help extinguish the fire.

We would especially like to thank the local hunters who spotted the smoke early and reported it. Their quick action helped prevent what could have turned into a very large wildfire.

Great teamwork all around and we’re thankful for a safe outcome.

We are sharing this from our neighboring department because it directly affects our area.

House Bill 4051 specifically targets their district and would significantly reduce their annual funding. They are the closest 24 hour paid staffed department to a large portion of our community, and we rely on them for mutual aid on structure fires, major incidents, and other emergencies.

While this bill does not directly reduce our funding, it would impact a department that we depend on. When their staffing, equipment, or response capability is reduced, it affects the level of support available to our citizens during critical incidents.

We encourage everyone to stay informed. Please review the information in the shared post and consider making your voice heard.

Over the past week, our department has responded to several brush fires caused by outdoor burning. With the current dry conditions and steady winds, fires are spreading much faster than normal.

At this time, we strongly recommend that all outdoor burning be postponed until we receive significant rainfall. Even small debris piles can quickly get out of control and threaten homes, property, and neighboring land.

We ask everyone to use good judgment and help us prevent unnecessary emergencies. A little patience now can prevent a serious situation later.

We appreciate your cooperation and your help in keeping our community safe.

Keeping our neighbors in our thoughts tonight. Please join us in praying for the firefighter involved in this accident and for the entire department.

***PRAYERS NEEDED***

The Blackman Fire District is requesting continued prayers for one of our own. An accident occurred today while one of our firefighters was responding to a call. Although the scene of the accident was one that words cannot even express, we can advise that based on information we have received, everything is looking good thus far and we will continue to send prayers to our firefighter and his family until we get the all clear.

PLEASE JOIN US IN OUR CONTINUED PRAYERS!!!
