Tonight a few of our members joined together to say thank you to one of our work partners! Heather Jernigan is an EMT with Lifeguard and works most of the time in the Northend of Santa Rosa County.

Recently we have worked side by side on a couple traumatic incidents. Multiple members have came forward talking highly of Heather with her professionalism, caring, and loving attitude towards the critical patients we had encountered . She always stayed engaged in treating and focusing on doing the best she could do for each patient.

From Berrydale Volunteer Fire Department we want to thank you for the way you treat our citizens of not just Berrydale Fire District, but the citizens of Santa Rosa County!

Congratulations to Kaden Roberson, the first official recipient of the Clay Brown Memorial Scholarship. Kaden graduated from The Fire Academy today after completing the program thru George Stone Technical College. We couldn’t be more proud of Kaden & we look forward to seeing him excel in his career as a firefighter! While still in the Academy, Kaden hired on as a firefighter with the City of Milton! We know he will do great things!

We would like to thank all of the donors to the Clay Brown Memorial fund, without your generosity this scholarship would not be possible! Clay would be so proud of this scholarship being awarded in his name. He loved being a firefighter and would have encouraged anyone choosing to walk this path. If you are someone or know of someone interested in pursuing a career as a firefighter, we will be looking for our next recipient soon. Stay tuned…

Our area continues to feel the effects of prolonged drought, which increases wildfire risk. We are asking you to continue to use extreme caution for all outdoor burning or potentially hazardous activities.

Santa Rosa County Public Safety continues to work closely with the Florida Forest Service and National Weather Service Mobile Office to monitor conditions and evaluate the need for possible burn bans.

While there is currently no burn ban in place for Santa Rosa County, burning yard debris is not recommended. Residents should also be extremely careful with any campfires or cooking fires as well as be mindful when parking vehicles, ATVs, etc., in tall grass or over leaves. According to the Florida Forest Service, of all wildfires in our area last year, 70% were human-caused and avoidable, with nearly 50% of the causes coming from yard debris or equipment/vehicle use.

The Florida Forest Service has also suspended authorizations for prescribed burning and large pile burning until further notice.

Residents may take the following actions to protect their families and homes from fire danger:
- Create at least 30 feet of defensible – clean and green – space around your home.
- Clear trash and dead vegetation from your front and backyards.
- Remove leaves and debris from roofs and gutters.
- Use extreme caution when grilling.
- Properly dispose of ci******es.
- Call 9-1-1 if you see fire in your area.

Current wildfire information can be viewed online at www.fdacs.gov/Forest-Wildfire/Wildland-Fire/Current-Wildfire-Information.
