Leaving hand sanitizer in your car will not explode.

The internal temperature of the car needs to reach way over 500 degrees Fahrenheit for a bottle of hand sanitizer to combust, according to The Poynter Institute. Arizona State University researchers found that vehicles in triple-digit temperatures reached a maximum of about 160 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Poynter.

It will need an ignition source to ignite. The worst thing that will happen is the heat will cause the alcohol to evaporate leaving the gel useless.

We are taking the time to applaud this young man. One of our Junior Firefighters whom volunteers with District 11. When school closed due to this virus, this 10th grader from West St Mary High, decides to make the best choice and come to the station everyday and assist with the daily operations. His focus is not with the streets, not with friends, but making positive decisions in his life. Big ups to his family for the push and support they are giving him. I want him to always remember that Chief Clark and St Mary District 11 stand with him have his back 100%.

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is forecasting around 1 to 2 inches of rain through Wednesday. Be aware that when heavy rains occur, street flooding is possible, especially in low-lying areas.

Even higher rain totals are expected north of our region. This will impact the Sabine and Neches Rivers, where minor to moderate flooding could occur later this week and weekend due to the heavy rains upstream.

In addition, sea fog will be a problem for marine interests in the northwest Gulf of Mexico through Wednesday.

Finally, SPC has outlined a severe weather threat for Wednesday. There is a marginal 5% risk for southeast Texas, and most of Louisiana is in a slight 15% risk. There is a higher enhanced 30% risk for Rapides, Avoyelles, Evangeline, and St. Landry Parishes. The timing for severe weather will be Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night. Tornadoes and damaging winds are the primary hazards.
