The Show Me Healthy Kids Nurse Advice Line is a free, 24/7 resource for members — including foster parents — to get quick, expert health guidance anytime, anywhere.
If you’re a foster parent in Missouri, you may call the SMHK Nurse Advice Line at 1‑877‑236‑1020 when you need immediate help with your child’s health.

This service connects you directly to an experienced nurse who can answer questions about medications, explain health issues, and help decide whether your child should go to the emergency room, urgent care, or see their primary care provider Home State Health.

Why a foster parent might call:
Medication questions — checking dosages, side effects, or refill instructions.
Symptom guidance — determining if a condition is urgent or can wait.
Care coordination — getting directions to the right provider or clinic.
Transportation help — sometimes nurses can connect you to SMHK’s MTM Transportation benefit to get your child to appointments content.govdelivery.com.
This line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, so you can reach out even after hours or on holidays if your child’s health needs change quickly.

Students are going back to school, and families want to share their pics on social. Safety advocates advise families to leave out identifying details like a child's school name, grade, age, teacher and favorite hobbies that a stranger could use to trick the child. Instead, use a photo of the child holding a generic "Back to School" sign or wearing a backpack without details. You can still share detailed, personal milestone updates through text messages or private family group chats. ✏️✂️📚

During the month of August, we recognize Overdose Awareness Month in an effort to remember the lives lost due to overdose and support individuals and families affected by substance use.

By learning the signs of an overdose, carrying naloxone, removing barriers and connecting people to treatment and recovery resources, we can make meaningful change. Together, we can build stronger, healthier communities.
