Jefferson City Public Library

Jefferson City Public Library Jefferson City Public Library is a member of the Jefferson County Public Library System. WELCOME TO THE JEFFERSON CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY!

Jefferson City Public Library has been fortunate in having a library since the 1930s, when a committee for the Monday Literary Club and others started the movement for a public library. Various locations throughout the city have been known as the library from a small room in City Hall to various stores in the community. At one time the library was located in the old high school property after the

city had acquired it until that building burned. In 1954 in response to a letter from the Monday Literary Club requesting a permanent and adequate location for the collection of books, the city appointed a library board to be comprised of four citizens from the population at large and one from the governing board. A location on Russell Avenue was proposed for a library, an indoor recreation area and a public meeting place. From 1965-1991 the library was known as Bales Memorial Library. It shared the space with others until 1984 when the city expanded the library space to include the whole main level floor of the present building. In 1968 the council voted the sum of $200.00 for the rental of books from the county, which indicates the city joining forces with the county in use of and cooperation with the Nolichucky Regional Library system and the Tennessee system of public libraries. In 2011, Jefferson City Public Library moved into its present location at 108 City Center Drive. JCPL shares the hill top with City Hall, Fire and Police Departments.

Hello again! We wanted to take a second to share a special event that we are sponsoring here at JCPL for the month of October! By popular demand, we have planned another field trip for our kids and their families. On October 21, 2026, we will be meeting at Echo Valley Corn Maze here in Jefferson City as a group. This event is open to children and adults of all ages, regardless of which program that you might attend! Parents are responsible for the cost of admission, lunch (optional), and transportation to the location. We were also able to secure a special group rate, which is...

$15 per child
$20 per adult

This price will gain us access to the various mazes, zip lines, slides, pumpkin patch, and a fun hayride as well! Lunch is served on site with a full concession stand, complete with sweet and savory treats, cheeseburgers, soft drinks, and more! We are really looking forward to this trip and it should be a lot of fun.

Sign-up forms are available at the main circulation desk, and feel free to give us a call at 865-475-9094 if you have any questions. We hope to see you there!

Good afternoon folks! We are super excited to talk about a brand new, special program that we are working on here at JCPL! Do you have a special talent that you dream of sharing with others? Well, we have the perfect opportunity for you. Whether you are a singer, a dancer, a full band, a comedian, or even a magician, we are looking for the best local talent to participate in our first ever talent show! Auditions for the show will be held on October 5, from 4:30-5:30 PM. Each contestant should plan for a 2 minute performance.

This audition is open to all ages, and we will be selecting between 10 and 15 of the best contestants to perform at our talent show on November 9. Sign up forms will be available within the next couple of days at our main circulation desk. There will also be a panel of guest judges who will pick our performers for our live event, which will be open to the public. There will ultimately be prizes and certificates for everyone who participates! For any questions, please feel free to call us at 865-475-9094 and ask for Jason. We hope to see you there!
