If you are a Wolfner patron, participate in our bi-weekly book club by dialing in every other Thursday at 2:00 p.m., or by using Zoom from a smart device.
Here’s a list of books that will be featured for June, July, and August
June 4 The Man Eaters of Tsavo by J.H. Patterson (DB046487)
In colonizing Africa, Lt. Col. Patterson and his comrades traveled through desert and jungle to build roads and bridges. In 1907 Patterson wrote of his encounters with man-eating lions who terrorized his work crew. A film, The Ghost and the Darkness is based on Patterson's adventures. (6 hours, 57 minutes)
June 18 The Secret Book Society by Madeline Martin (DB132261)
"You are cordially invited to the Secret Book Society ... London, 1895: Trapped by oppressive marriages and societal expectations, three women receive a mysterious invitation to an afternoon tea at the home of the reclusive Lady Duxbury. Beneath the genteel facade of the gathering lies a secret book club -- a sanctuary where they can discover freedom, sisterhood, and the courage to rewrite their stories. Eleanor Clarke, a devoted mother suffocating under the tyranny of her husband. Rose Wharton, a transplanted American dollar princess struggling to fit the mold of an aristocratic wife. Lavinia Cavendish, an artistic young woman haunted by a dangerous family secret. All are drawn to the enigmatic Lady Duxbury, a thrice-widowed countess whose husbands' untimely deaths have sparked whispers of murder. As the women form deep, heartwarming friendships, they uncover secrets about their marriages, their pasts, and the risks they face. Their courage is their only weapon in the oppressive world that has kept them silent, but when secrets are deadly, one misstep could cost them everything." -- From publisher (7 hours, 51 minutes)
Participants may call Wolfner via phone to be linked into the meeting.

Courageous conversations are in full swing at the 2026 Missouri Rehabilitation Association conference this week. Thank you, MRA, Cornell University, and DeBruce staff for reminding us that the question of promoting accessibility and independence is never, “How do I do this?” It is always, “How do we do this, together?” Wolfner Library is a partner in literacy growth across the state. Reach out to see how we can help support your efforts at sos.mo.gov/wolfner.

Established in 1914 to celebrate the influence of mothers in society, its founder emphasized homemade gifts and handwritten letters expressing “love and gratitude.” Find time to remember, or share your own gratitude with the women in your life who have cared for you.
