SRO’s play an important role in the lives of their students. Don’t underestimate your influence you’re having on the students. Great work by this Deputy!

A suicidal teen asked for his School Resource Deputy last night, who was able to talk him safely down from the Worlds of Fun water tower.

Kansas City Missouri Police Department responded to a call of a teen who ran away at 9:37 p.m. May 24. They located him actively climbing the water tower at 5016 N. Bristol. He ascended close to the top, an estimated 115 feet off the ground. The teen said he wanted to speak only with Deputy Bransfield, the School Resource Deputy at his middle school. Kansas City Police called Deputy Bransfield, who arrived about 10:15 p.m.

The teen told Deputy Bransfield he wanted him to come so he could say good-bye and thank him for all he’d done for him. Deputy Bransfield engaged him in conversation about his struggles, and after about 40 minutes, he was able to convince the boy to climb down safely.

An ambulance then transported the teen for mental health treatment.

The incident below involves our MSRO Chaplain, Scott Ramsey.

It took place took when a juvenile attempted to bring a ski mask into the dance, as that allegedly may be a new trend.

The MSRO wanted to share the article to get the information out there in case anyone may run across something similar.

Officer Ramsey has been released from the hospital and is at home recovering. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

PRESS RELEASE:

(Harrisonville, MO) - On 4/29/23, at approximately 2116 hours, the Harrisonville Police Department responded to an assault in progress at 210 South Independence. A juvenile suspect assaulted a Harrisonville Police Officer, identified as Scott Ramsey, at the Harrisonville High School Prom.

The juvenile suspect attempted to enter the dance earlier in the evening with a backpack, which was against dance rules. The school staff volunteered to hold his bag at the entrance to the venue. The juvenile suspect later retrieved a ski mask out of his backpack and attempted to put it on. Officer Ramsey saw the juvenile subject with the ski mask on and told him to take it off. The juvenile suspect became disruptive and argumentative. The juvenile suspect refused to let go of the item, at which point, Officer Ramsey attempted to es**rt him outside of the dance to discuss it further. Once outside, the juvenile suspect began to physically assault Officer Ramsey, striking him in the face several times. The juvenile suspect also assaulted a member of the Harrisonville School District staff.

Officer Ramsey was transported by ambulance to Cass Regional Medical Center, where he was kept overnight for treatment and evaluation. The juvenile suspect is being held through the Cass County Juvenile Office pending charges. The department is unable to answer questions about the suspect, as it involves a juvenile and is still an open investigation. If you have questions, please contact Lieutenant Darin Chance at (816) 380-8931.
