⚪️ To the grandparent who rearranged their whole life overnight.
⚪️ The aunt who said yes before she even knew what yes would require.
⚪️ The family friend who showed up when a child needed them most.

You may not have planned for this. You just had love, and you found a way to make it work.

Kinship caregivers are some of the most quietly heroic people in a child's life. They help children stay connected to the people, places and traditions that feel familiar during some of the hardest moments of their lives.

This month, and every month, CMFCAA sees you. And we're here to help you keep going.

September is National Recovery Month, and for many families involved in foster care, recovery can be an important part of the journey toward reunification.

When a parent is working hard toward stability, foster and kinship families play a quiet but powerful role. They keep children safe, cared for and supported while parents do the difficult work of healing and rebuilding.

That's not a small thing. That's hope in action.

CMFCAA walks alongside everyone in this story — the children, the caregivers and the families working toward reunification. Because when the whole family is supported, everyone has a better chance to heal and move forward.

CMFCAA was glad to be part of United Way of Central Missouri’s 2026 Community Campaign kickoff!

Morgan Wozniak, Jill Quaid and Amanda Angell attended the event, which celebrated the incredible generosity already shown by local Pacesetters. Together, Pacesetters raised nearly $1.5 million toward this year’s United Way campaign.

CMFCAA is proud to be a United Way partner agency, and we are grateful for the way United Way helps strengthen services across our community.

CMFCAA staff are also joining in by making their own United Way pledges, helping carry that spirit of generosity forward.

Thank you, United Way of Central Missouri, for bringing people together to care for our neighbors. And yes, the cotton candy was a nice bonus.

Most kinship caregivers didn't see it coming.

One phone call. One conversation. One moment where love said yes before logic had a chance to catch up.

And just like that, everything changed.

The spare room became a child's room. The grocery list got longer. The questions got harder. And the love? It grew in ways nobody could have predicted.

Kinship care isn't a program or a policy. It's a person who showed up when a child needed them most, and kept showing up, even when it was hard.

If that's you, CMFCAA sees you. And we're here to make sure you don't have to carry this alone. 💛

The Individualized Education Program (IEP) process can feel like alphabet soup.

Here's the simple version:

1. Child Find: the school identifies a possible need (or you request an evaluation)
2. Referral: a formal request is submitted
3. Evaluation: the school reviews data and evaluates your child
4. Eligibility: the team determines if your child qualifies under one of 13 Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) categories.
5. IEP: if eligible, the team builds a plan specific to your child. A medical diagnosis doesn't automatically mean school eligibility, it's a separate process.

If you're navigating this for the first time, we can walk through it with you.
