Supporters of Amendment 5 have nothing to be ashamed of. We stood proudly for the truth and facts that never change, even when others are not yet ready to embrace them.

Amendment 5 offered the clearest path to Missouri’s future prosperity, and while the status quo remains for now, our vision and integrity shine through.

Thanks to all who kept the truth and facts in play even in the face of the fear of those who rejected them and who epitomized the saying, "Do right though the stars fall,"

Here are the Constitutional restrictions in Amendment 5 that the opponents ignore, deny, and outright lie about.

The core text supporting these restrictions is the amendment language itself, which requires the phaseout of the income tax, ties any sales tax expansion to that phaseout, requires the offset in the same legislation, and mandates local tax rate reductions without reducing school funding. The Western District opinion also confirmed that the measure’s contemplated means are sales tax expansion to eliminate income tax revenue, with offsets in the same legislation.

Missourians who have seen firsthand what life in a no income tax state can produce understand why Amendment 5 is the right path. It is Missouri’s best hope for a brighter, more prosperous economic future, because it moves the state toward a stronger tax structure that rewards productivity instead of punishing it.

Too many people have lost sight of the greater good. They let falsehoods and fear mongering drown out the facts, when the facts are clear. Amendment 5 is a change in revenue source with guardrails, designed to strengthen Missouri for the long term, not protect a broken status quo.

Amendment 5 puts Missouri’s growth to work for taxpayers instead of letting Jefferson City spend it all. It uses revenue limits to control runaway government and turns economic growth into automatic income-tax cuts, which means more purchasing power and a stronger future for working families.
