Coming tomorrow (February 7) to the Missouri State Capitol!

You are cordially invited to a special art exhibit of Missouri artist Lennis Leonard (L.L.) Broadfoot. Broadfoot chronicled the everyday lives of the hill people of the Missouri Ozarks, and in doing so, captured the history of a vanishing way of life. Many thanks to the Harlin Museum, State Representative David Evans and Senator Karla Eslinger for their collaboration on this event.

Where: Missouri State Capitol, Third Floor Rotunda
When: Wednesday, February 7, 2024

🚨🚨🚨🚨 ANNOUNCEMENT! 🚨🚨🚨🚨

Today, we’re happy to announce that the earliest film in our collection is now available on YouTube! This three-minute Dupont-Pathé newsreel, filmed in 1927 or 1928, captures Missouri Gov. Sam A. Baker at his desk in the State Capitol. It then shows footage of Baker taking viewers outside and standing on the Capitol steps, interspliced with exterior shots of the Capitol Building.

The Capitol was officially dedicated on Oct. 6, 1924, so you might say the building was in its infancy when this footage was shot. As far as we know, it’s the earliest motion picture film of Missouri’s Capitol and may also be the only film of Gov. Baker!

View the short film here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efP2dUTRI1Q

We have more than 25 newly-digitized films to share, so stay tuned 📺 for additional announcements over the next several months.
