Our next Winemaker Wednesday is on Mike Riley from Shamrock Hills Vineyard and Winery. 🍀

Mike Riley, winemaker for Shamrock Hills Vineyard and Winery, is a veteran, engineer, and business owner who lives by the motto “go big or go home.” What began as a shared passion for wine tasting with his wife Denise—traveling to wineries across the United States and around the world—eventually led them to an unexpected path: opening their own winery and crafting their own wines.

Naturally inquisitive, Mike dove into learning the craft of winemaking. What once were casual tastings quickly became research trips as he built relationships with winemakers, viticulturists, and enologists, soaking up knowledge along the way. He also immersed himself in Missouri’s viticulture and enology extension programs, taking classes and seeking guidance from fellow winemakers whenever challenges arise.

While many new winemakers start with just a few wines, Mike launched with ten, using each as an opportunity to experiment, refine techniques, and grow. Now entering the winery’s third season, Shamrock Hills is preparing to bottle 25,000 bottles of wine while Mike continues to support the Missouri wine industry through vairous leadership roles.
