The JHPD continues to observe unsafe and illegal riding throughout the community. Even though children are heading back to school, you may still encounter young riders on e-bikes and electric scooters.

Take a few minutes to review Pennsylvania’s laws regarding e-bikes and electric scooters. Parents should also be aware that they may be held responsible for violations involving their children.

Motorists should continue to use extra caution and watch for riders. Knowing the rules and staying alert can help everyone stay safe.

You Need a Permit for That!

Our Building and Code Department has been hard at work creating new permit packets organized by common project categories. These packets make the permitting process easier to follow and complete.

With school starting back up in the community this week, school buses will be back on the road.

Remember, Pennsylvania law requires motorists to:
• Stop at least 10 feet from a school bus displaying flashing red lights and an extended stop arm.
• Stop whether you are approaching the bus from the front, traveling behind it, or approaching an intersection where the bus is stopped.
• Remain stopped until the red lights stop flashing, the stop arm is withdrawn, and all children have safely crossed the roadway or reached a place of safety.

Traffic traveling in the opposite direction must also stop unless the roadway is divided by a physical barrier such as a concrete median, guide rail, or grassy median.
