A line of storms is forecast enter far northwest Georgia during the early morning hours on Monday. These storms are expected to push southward through west Georgia during the morning, though there is some uncertainty on far south and east these storms will advance. Storms within this line could become strong to severe, capable of producing damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and frequent lightning.

Abundant moisture streaming off of TS Bertha 🌀 and overspreading an approaching frontal boundary will support increased chances for heavy rainfall leading to localized flash flooding on Wednesday. ⚠️ Stay weather aware into the evening, and never cross flooded roadways.

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT / OVERVIEW:

Widespread thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening. Heavy rainfall is possible in these storms, leading to the potential for localized flash flooding. A couple of storms could also be strong to severe, bringing the potential for locally strong to damaging wind gusts.

Heavy Rainfall:
A Slight Risk (level 2 of 4) of Excessive Rainfall is in effect today for the majority of the area. Localized rainfall totals upwards of 2-3" (isolated higher) are possible, leading to potential flash flooding concerns.

Severe Thunderstorms:
A Marginal (level 1 out of 5) Risk for severe thunderstorms is in effect for portions of east central Georgia this afternoon, indicating the potential for locally strong to damaging wind gusts. An isolated strong to severe thunderstorm can't be ruled out across the remainder of the area as well.

IMPACTS:
Heavy rainfall could lead to localized flash flooding which could lead to overwhelmed storm drains and temporary street flooding.

Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph (capable of downing trees) are possible in the strongest storms this afternoon and evening. Any storm that forms will be accompanied by gusty winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall.

TIMING:
Thunderstorms will begin to develop this afternoon and may linger well into the night tonight before increasing in coverage again after noon again on Tuesday.
