The Jackson County Health Departments (Commerce & Jefferson locations) will close early (Jefferson at 2:30pm, Commerce at 3pm) on Wednesday, May 27 for our monthly staff meeting.

Spring is in the air, and kids are starting to play outside.
Could the kids be exposed to lead in the dirt?

Protect young children from possible lead exposure in soil by:
• ensuring children do not eat soil or put soil into their mouths
• removing shoes in the house to limit soil from being brought in
• limit exposure to bare soil - use sandboxes (and cover when not in use)
• cover bare soil with grass or mulch
• testing the soil to determine if it is safe

There will not be any nursing services available at the Jefferson clinic of the Jackson County Health Department on Friday, May 22. Other services (WIC, Environmental Health, scheduling appointments, etc) will remain available.

It's Healthy & Safe Swimming Week! May 18-24, 2026

As the weather warms up, and kids finish school for the summer, protect yourself and your family from germs in recreational water sources.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: WIC Farmers Markets 2026

WIC Participants: The Northeast Health District WIC program has 3 Farmers Markets scheduled for the 2026 season (including a special SATURDAY market in July).

These are open to any WIC participant in the district. Look for more details and possible partnerships as we get closer.

• Wednesday, June 17th - Morgan County Health Department
• Saturday, July 18th - Clarke County Health Department
