Today marks the official start of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which runs through Nov. 30. Forecasters with NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center are predicting a below-normal hurricane season for the Atlantic basin this year. NOAA’s outlook predicts a 35% chance of a near-normal season, a 10% chance of an above-normal season, and a 55% chance of a below-normal season.

No matter the forecast for your area, remember: It only takes one storm to disrupt a community. Landfalls and impacts are determined by short-term weather patterns, so early preparation is essential for everyone.

Head Start prepares our most vulnerable young children to succeed in school and in life beyond school. To achieve this, Head Start programs deliver services to children and families in core areas of early learning, health, and family well-being while engaging parents as partners every step of the way.
